I will be bringing it to the dealer tomorrow. I just wanted to get some people's feedback and see if any has had this happen to them? Did/Will the dealer replace it for free?
Right now my car is stuck in 3rd gear.
Let me know peeps. Thanks

sup Lou
same **** happened to me
i was ummm driving down this straight road :) and i was shifting pretty firmly through the gears, well at one point it felt like the shifter got real soft like it wasnt the usual affirming feeling u get.
so i drove down this straight road a few more times and the shifter just felt weird then finally it went, the shifter cable broke when i firmly shifted into 2nd
the shifter was freely moving back n forth but stuck left/right
so my thought was that the cable that moves with the back/forth motion broke or came off well it ended up being broken, luckily it was 2nd gear so i was still able to drive to the dealer
the dealer covered and they had mentioned that i shouldn't be racing it
i dunno where they got that idea from
good luck if they don't cover it let me know might be able to get you one
Yeah it happen to me twice!
1st time got stock on 5th
and 2nd time my 5th and 6th gear dissapear!!!!
you should have no problems with TOyota.
Is a pain in the ass to fix it, they have to remove the whole dash, your will look stolen!
And the problem is the trans cables.

Luis, would this straight road happen to be a 1/4 of a mile long. Hehe.
Jose: You think the dealer will give me a problem with my setup? I hope not. Should i take out anything?

that's one for the x-files :D
RiceboyKiller, with a B&M short shifter and a Direct Shift Kit in there I would expect it is the aftermarket parts that have failed, if so you know what the dealer will say......

I had the nut come off the shifter linkage just behind the intake. I got stuck in 6th. When I took it in for repair, I was told that they would fix it "this time only" and was also told that it looked like I was abusing my car. I really can't tell where they came up with that and have filed a complaint with Toyota. I've never raced it and only use it to commute to work.
My only guess is that when I had it in last time for a CEL (due to my CAI) they saw I was going 5200 RPM at 84 MPH. They told me that the RPMs were way to high for that speed. When I told them that the 2nd cam doesn't even kick in until 6k, they told me that the car really isn't able to be driven in that range on a regular basis.
I have just about had it with Toyota service!

Thanks guys.
Gaps: Exactly how I felt. This morning, I changed the shifter back to stock. Then, got it towed to the dealer.
GTS2K: I'm hoping they fix it. I've mis-shifted my car before. After they fixed it, it has been so tight going into gears. It was working fine so I never thought anything of it. I just thought it was a new thing that Toyota installed. Last couple of months, shifting has had a rusty, clicking feeling. Then 2 days ago, "snap".
Oh well. I'll see what the dealer says.

I had my engine Blow up (got a brand new enigne at 30000miles!!) and my trany was crewed in the process. Toyota was nice enough to replace the whole unit.
There is a new shifter linkage assembly that toyota has switched to, apparently the stock set up was a little weak. If you have any problems, they will likely change it to the new style, There is a toyota service bulletin about it,
It does change the throw alittle bit though, and it feels a little bit more ratchatey than stock, but it couldbe just that it is so new, who knows.

BigBad91, do you know where I can find out more about the service bulletin? Also, how do you like the feel of the post service bulletin shifter or is the jury still out? I like the idea of more 'ratchety' shifting as you stated. I want my GTS to shift like my Miata.

This is my 3rd day with it, we had a beatiful day today so I went for an hour drive for lunch out of town with a WRX. (thank god I have a badge firefighter plates and a blue light on my dash. Got pulled over doing 104 in a 55 zone along a farmers feild, turn my valentine off...doh!!!, but got let off, and told to not do it in his district!!)
Anyways, it is wearing nicely, I like the more precise feel for agressive driving. The celicas have had an issue in that you can throw the car form 6th into 3rd real easy. There have been alot of GTS with the 6sps that have self destructed (mine for one) that have gotten all new tranies and engines (at 30000miles) from accidently doing that and over reving. So I think some of the redesign has to do with that, some way an attempt to prevent it.
I would ask your toyota dealler, they should be able to provide you info on any service bulletins.
The shifts do feel a little more spread out. I have messed up the 2nd to 3rd shift a few times when I first got it (hauling ass of course) but i seem to not do that anymore.
