View Full Version : Toyota Matrix
Have you seen the commercials?
Wanted to see what everyone thought about it and what the opinions were.

Cool commercials. The message is "Futuristic, cool, quick, and room in the back".
It's not for me though. I think I could roll it :)

It's got 3 doors too many, and about 200 HP less than I'd like. ;)
But really, I don't like the 5-door hatchback/wagons that are coming out. They're all the same to me. Mazda Protege MP5, Ford Focus ZX5. Even the Civic Si is a hatchback again. I don't want a hatchback. :(

I thought about it but then realized, celica's torque (actually the matrix has 5 more lbs/ft) in a heavier car.....not good, but it looks good, and cheaper than the celi loaded.....23k with everything, Matrix XRS including DVD nav.

i've sat in one the other day at Universal Studios for the unveiling or what ever. Its comfy roomy i like the way they did the gauges. the shifter feels like the 02 trans from our car kinda sits at an angle.
I like it even though alot of people think its ugly, I wouldnt actually trade it for my car but if i needed a sporty roomy car w/ all the fixing 23 isnt bad. and I garuntee wants the car is hooked up dropped and w/ a body kit people are going to be like whoa!
anyways to each their own, i'm going for a test drive soon I wanna see how it competes w/ us.

actually drove the car in irvine,ca for a ride and drive for toyota. drove on a autox course that was designed by amci, the independent testing company. drove it against the mazda protoge5, focus zx5, golf 5door and it was pretty nice for a sportwagon. the 6000 spike didn't feel the same as the celica's, but it was an auto i drove. i did manage to take a souvenir with me from a 6 speed matrix. i have the chrome shift knob of the matrix. it's pretty nice! i have it on the car right now..

actually the car with the nav and everything was 21,600 for the xrs 6 speed, the auto was 23k. the nav sucks though it's not the one that's in the camry where it's a touch screen nav, it has a toggle switch. the radio and nav was lifted from GM's parts bin and not toyota's.
the car was nice looking too. it's a lot smaller in person cause in pictures the car looks big. length wise it's as long as the 2003 corolla which we also test drove at irvine,ca...

everyone will like it... it's just a new style that you're not used to seeing, so you dont like it right away... but once you see them on the road, you'll start staring, and imagining a kit and wheels on it...
that car will be tite... AWD and slap on a turbo... it will be nice

I think they look sweet as hell. I also really like the look of the Vibe GT-R show car. If I had the money for a good ski car that I could haul a bunch of stuff around in, it would be a toss up between a Matrix and a Protege5.

Toyota said "the AWD system could not handle the 180 hp power"...I say Toyota might wanna get together with SUBARU and start building REAL AWD systems.........can't handle the power......dumbas$es! but the matrix is still nice....:gap:

well, i thinks its cool, that they are sharing the engine and transmission. that means that if they make parts for the matrix, then those parts should fit in the celica's. it almost seems like the honda family thing going. different body styles and they pretty much share the same parts. although i havent seen on in person, i kinda like the look. its going to be cool to see what the bodykit companies are going to do to the matrix.

I think it is priced extremely well. If you load-up an XRS (180HP, 6-speed), and skip the nav system, MSRP is $20,555. Considering a similar Celica GT-S MSRPs for close to $25,000, I think the Matrix is set at a decent price.
