Did anyone get super street yet? My friend said the turbo GTS is the cover feature this month, he said that they didn't post any track times though...does anyone know this info? I'm always the last to get the mail...

If I'm not correct, I think it's a GT, not a GTS.. still a bad ass ride

well, I finally got the magazine in the mail.....you're right, it's a GT...of course they have two pages of complete bullsh*t and never mention a track time, a dyno result....nothing. I guess it's supposed to be a mystery. In a way, I dont care, I'd love to know what a turbo GTS would produce....

Agreed. Both articles (Import Racer and Super Street) about the two turboed GT Celi's have been poorly written fluff pieces with no info about dynos, 1/4 mile runs, no in depth dicussion about how the Celi's were tuned, how the fuel system and turbo system were made, etc. Oh, well. At least the pictures are nice.

The car was just finished right before the shot, I really didn't have time to break in the turbo, so i didn't want to force it and blow my motor. It's been about three months since they did the shot, but i've been pretty lazy and broke about going to a dyno, lots of other things going on in my life right now. Judging from the different cars that I've race, I'm GUESSING that's it's about 220hp to the wheels, GUESSING. There really hasn't been any fine tuning since i want to do that at the dyno, but my boy Ryan , and Mike who know a lot more then i'll ever know about turbo cars, tuned as far as they could. Right now the car is running fine without any problems, and running at about 7-8 pounds of boost daily driving, i have been able to boost 14 pounds but that was by accident and only for a very short time. Hopefully by the May - June shows I'll have the dyno and the track time. Hopefully that has answered any of your questions that they neglected to mention.

Your ride is tight! Share as much info about it as you like (pics, dynos, timeslips, etc.) Can't wait to see and hear more about your Celica.

Damn nice ride but why is your spare a different color?

Thanks everyone for your kind remarks. I really don't have anything planned this year for the car, I'm going to really focus on getting those time slips, and dyno run done, and fine tune it, but aside from that I'm pretty much done with the car....(till next year). O, everyone always ask about the different color spare, I just wanted it to stand out, i had a gunmetal wheel back there before but it looked really plain, so i changed it out to give it some color no other reason then that. but again thanks everyone for your support.

hey Ivan, how did you ever get Superstreet to make you their cover feature? Did they contact you?

The Red Dragon
02-13-2002, 05:02 PM
The company I work for (SAVAS) has a two page ad in their magazine, so when ever they'd be down here they'd see the car outside. I also met a few of the guys that free lance for them at the shows i've done and they hit me there as well. They were planning to shot the car about a year ago but it was going to be a feature and not front cover, so i held out till the car was completely done so they could give me cover. So when the car finally came out I just called them up showed them some pictures and they were like let's do this.

I got my copy in the mail on Monday....I couldn't believe that SS had featured a Celica!!! The only other time I can remember a major compact car mag featuring a Celi is an old 1999 copy of SCC when the new Celicas first came out - they were comparing it to Integras. But I almost lost it when I saw that red Celica..Whats surprising is SS is known to play the "Honda favorites" game (thats why I'm not re-newing my subscription).

Can someone scan the article? My subscription just ran out this month and I'm not renewing cause SS sucks.

Someone definately scan this.

Props to them for putting the spotlight on the celica, but their mag is mostly rice! Just like the silicon clad models...its all for show.

I'll take a year of SCC though!

I'm gonna disagree with SS being rice. They represent what's going on with imports. Now if superstreet is rice than the whole show side of imports is rice. But their mag does suck, their articles are about nothing, and they don't even get to drive the cars. And the editors don't anything about "souping" up cars.

Ivan.. i too would like to give you props on your car.. and its good to see that you plan to dyno it and get some times for it..
unlike another turboed celica that has been out for quite sometime..

i havnt been keeping up with it, but have they ever got times for the xs engineering turbo gts? or was that strictly all show?

Hey Ivan, mad props bro. That car is sweet. Can't wait to see those time slips. Way to represent the GT!

You GT-S guys shouldn't be complaining, you've got a Blitz supercharger comin out soon!!!

Best wishes,

SS overall isnt really rice.....they do feature some nice cars in there. Most of them are sleepers, like the 180sx w/ turbo, etc.

The worst thing about that magazine is the countless # of pages advertising civic parts. I'm sure the advertisers make lots of sales but it's just annoying

So far, all three turboed Celicas (Red Dragon, XS/ALT Celica, and Insight GT-T) are show cars. The XS car was dynoed at 251.2 at the wheels ( http://www.newcelica.org/other/reviews/turbo/pic16.jpg ) and Insight GT-T's car was dynoed at 207.9 hp at the wheels. As far as I know, none of the turbo Celicas have run at the track. (I tried to attach a download of GT-T's dyno, but the file is too big. I could email it to someone to post on the board, though).

i read every damn bit of it. does anyone have a clue where the battery went??? red dragon - u want to help me on this one?

for those who don't have the mag, here's the scanned pages:
http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4292040897

the images are extremely large so that u can see the smaller images and the words. of course, as imagestation does, the images are reduced at first, but when you click to view the actual image, then be warned..........

The meter in between the two gauages in the center dash is my volts meter, in between my seats is my PPI Q bass controller and my Pivot shift lite controller. My battery was relocated behind my driver seat, and for the sake of making it look pretty I added a second one behind my passanger seat, you can kind of see it in one of the pics they took, right next the volcano one on each side. The rear trunk piece was fabricated for my by my boys over at Fiber Images.

How long have you guys have your Celica?

I would think all off you would know the different between a 1ZZ-FE and a 2ZZ-GE engine. Look at where the oil dip stick is. I don't care what the outside has, it's all options. The engine design will tell you if it's a GT or GT-S.

well, i think that the reason people were guessing were those that haven't seen the article yet. actually, everyone but the inital post was wondering, and that was because their FRIEND told them..... maybe i missed something though...

Hey Ivan, little video game question. How the heck did you fit the Nintendo 64 in there so well. It looks really tight. Also another question just off my mind, why did you go with the nintendo 64 considering the new systems out there? Oh and also whats gas miliage like on the turbo set up:) Thanks and your car looks tight, I made my girlfriend buy me the issue for valentines day. Only thing I told her I wanted. Nice ride:)

Ivan. nice car man
one question. i have talked to XS engineering about the turbo kit they did on a gts.
i saw your car in SS {working at a shop helps get things before others} i was actually more or less interested in the fuel system set up for the turbo. i know how the stock one works. just curious as to how you got it to work right. SS isn't too great about going int certain details about things like this. they didn't do it on the XS turbo celi either.
