Well heres the deal. I just recently started autoxing and man what an addiction. Right now, I cant stop thinking about anything but autoxing. Well anyway sunday was my first event. I did alright, I improved nearly four seconds from my first run so I'm really happy about that.

Then later on that day we had fun runs, and I let another celica driver alan, drive my car, and he shaved five seconds off my best time. Well the big deal is, with those times, that would put us in first in STS by a lot. Other cars would be nearly 2 seconds off my car making this car a winner if I can learn to drive it just as well.

I also have a couple of questions though regarding a few mods that will be done to my car (and I know I should learn to drive it the way it is, but hehe I can't resist).

The header that is going to be made by hytech will replace the cat for a bigger one, if I do get this, will it take me out of sts or is it a legal replacement as long as the car is able to pass emissions?

Well I think you answered your own question. Since the other Celica driver went 5 seconds faster "in your car" we know that right now it's not the car. I would save the money on mods and work on getting the "nut behind the wheel" up to the level of your co-driver. If you must spend, do it on event entries or schools. Once you get to his level you will know what the car needs.

BTW: A "emissions legal" header is ok in STS. Will it help? I understand the stock header is very good so I don't think you'll see a ton of improvement, besides if it makes you a half second faster it will make the "other" driver faster too.

Thanks for your input nxracer. I know, I should save my money and use it on something more worthwile such as driving schools (which I will do early next year) and such, but after this little mod, it won't be anything for a while. It isn't totally necessary like you say, and I understand the possible consequences of modding before I know my cars full potential, but it is something I have had my heart set on.

I'd spend the money on tires..... There are quite a few new "sticky" STS tires out or coming out real soon.

The only contact you have with the pavement is those four small patches of rubber. Going fast is all about managing those patches.
