View Full Version : Celica & Insurance Rates

So last night I decided to do a whole bunch of quotes through progressive just for the hell of it. Now keep in mind my insurance is expensive as is because of the accident and alot of speeding tickets.
4006.00 2000 Celica GTS
3732.00 1999 Eclipse GSX
3666.00 2000 Celica GT
3662.00 2004 EVO VIII
3658.00 1993 RX7
3444.00 2004 WRX STi
3278.00 2004 Civic EX
3020.00 1999 Civic EX
Now as I said above yea the rates are high because of all my points but what I find the most disturbing is it costs more to insure a Celica GTS then it does to insure most of these other high power performance cars (minus the civic). I did a quote for an 03 GTS as well and it was like 4400 a year but I don't remember the exact #.

They probably have the EVO and STi lower because of the 4 doors, and the RX7 is old. I would think the GSX would be higher than a GTS though.
I only pay $109 a month for insurance on my GTS. SUX2BU Larry. :chuckles:

it's hilarious how the GTS is on the top of that list :chuckles:

In this regard yes it does. I have 7 violations on my insurance record though so its understandable. I did a quote last night for the RX7 next year when all the violations are gone and my insurance was like 1900 vs 3600 it is now.

sedans are always cheaper, even if they're turbo'ed.

I was wondering the same thing. Insurance likes to rape people on outdated "stereotypes"
a 2 seater means you can fly at 250 mph apparently for what they charge for 2 seat cars, mr2's 350z's etc.
I guess 2 doors isn't far behind that.
hell I wouldn't be surprised if they charge more based on the car's color.. red means fast!
morons.
If its got four doors, it must be safe, and there must be a family man driving it!
nevermind the fact that it has 300 hp and a turbo

I save $1,400 every 6 months with my new car as apposed to my Celica.

 But no one our age drives a car like that.

Well some people do, but if you have enough $$ to buy a 911 turbo Im sure your not tooo worried how much the insurance would be.

Exactly. Oh, and those that do probably didn't buy the car themselves.

You left out one of the Celica's closest competitor: RSX-S. It's also cheaper than the Celica GTS in insurance. I just can't figure out why. Is it because of the Acura brand name? Or is it that the majority of the owners are older (does not seem to be so looking at the clubrsx forums..)? It's interesting the RX8 is about the same as the 350Z. I guess insurance companies weren't fooled by its supposedly four doors :)

09-29-2003, 04:41 PM
Ok, since you asked.. I'll compare the same year to make it fair..
4430.00 04 Celica GTS
3914.00 04 RSX-S
The Ceilca is still rediculously high but the RSX is a lil higher then most of the other cars I priced out..

Man, alive! That's friggin high. I need to stop complaining about my full coverage insurance being $4800 per year for an 03 Celica and two 4x4 Tacomas.

Actually I just got my insurance renewal today. It went up by about $25 a month but its still only $740 for a 6 month policy. Its going up but no where near those quotes...I have a few things on my record but they are only counting 1 of them which was an improper turn...they have 3 others listed but it says they arent counting them against me. I have Progressive but then again its a 5 speed GT and not a GTS...dont know if that is making that big of a difference.

09-29-2003, 05:16 PM
I have alot of violations, thats why my insurance is so high.

09-29-2003, 05:21 PM
is progressive as cheap as it gets?
if u didnt drive for a year its like a frikin turbo kit rite there.

How long does violations stay on your record?
TRD GT-S
09-29-2003, 06:09 PM
why is our's so high on the list? is it b/c it "looks fast" ? lol
PhatCellyGT
09-29-2003, 06:20 PM
It's because the GT-S is in the affordable price range for 1st time drivers.....the others aren't really affordable for kids just out of high school

i'm in the same boat as larry...i got a whoooole bunch of tickets on my record...so insurance for full coverage on the celica was like 395/mo or some **** through progressive. So since I'm not drivin it, no insurance...it's in the garage and it's paid for so...
I don't know what full coverage would be on the GVR4, but liability is only 82/mo
I made the mistake of telling Progressive of my tickets and accidents. As it turns out, Georgia is one of the few states where out of state insurers can't request MVRs! Ain't that some sh!t?

Usually it is 3 years or more from the date of each violation before they don't count against you. At least as far as the DMV is concerned... I am not sure if insurance companies are legally bound to that.

This is correct but some states are different.

Looks like the Celica lives upto its mantra as the car that "Looks fast".
If you are interested in getting quotes from more insurance companies (and possibly reducing your insurance rates), you may want to check out www.insweb.org
They scan a whole bunch of insurance companies and if they find someone who is willing you might get decent rates.

I have a clean record...no tickets/no claims, and my quotes have been even higher than that. My record was one from Metlife for $6600... :chuckles:
Currently I'm paying $3500 under GE Auto Insurance. Just another reason why I love NJ... :(

Yeah, back in 2000 when I was pricing out the Eclipse GT, Celica GT-S and a Mustang GT, the Mustang GT, despite being the fastest of the trio was over $200 cheaper a month than the Celica, and $130 cheaper than the Eclipse.
Weird.

I can't even imagine what my insurance would be if I was still living or to move back into NJ. I know when I moved to DE it cut in about half from what it was in NJ.
