is the 40 hp rating difference merely because of "lift" or is the GT-S more powerful all along the powerband?

This has been covered quite a few times, I did a http://www.newcelica.org/forums/images/top_search.gif (http://www.newcelica.org/forums/search.php?s=)
and came up with this

differences...
cylinder head
cams
crank
connecting rods
block
pistons
timing gear
oil pump
pil pan
valves
valvetrain
intake manifold
exhaust manifold
"-L" (lift)
Hmmm, looks like the GT and GTS have a different engine.
Scott
So, no the 40hp is not merely because of lift.

Below 6000rpm, the stock GT and stock GT-S engines have similar performance (nc.org dynos (http://www.newcelica.org/other/dyno/index.htm)), despite their radical design differences. But don't forget that the GT-S has shorter gearing and a little more weight than the GT, which will affect performance.

I've driven Greg's GT and I have a GT-S, and I totally agree with this statement. It's not a major difference, obviously, but instead of a powerband which stretches over 8,350RPM where the power is "weighted" at the end (lift), you have a powerband where the power is stretched over a smaller area, and it's not heavily "weighted" as the GT-S' is.

It is same design, but the spring rates and damping might be different.

Hmm. could that be due to the fact that the GT-S comes stock with rear disc brakes?
:analogy: They also have the TRD exhaust for the GT-S as different #'s (and prices of course  ) but the GT exhausts will fit the GT-S just the same... won't they?
