Too bad they didnt get damage modeling into this one. I'll still wind up buying it but it's silly that the easiest way to pass someone is to smash into them going into a corner. It would have been great to have to pay for repairs etc. for scraping walls etc.

in regards to damage modeling in any Gran Turismo, the producer said something along the lines of... "most of the time you are going at speeds that, at impact, would cause your vehicle to shatter into thousands of pieces"

That's a good point.
I wish every game genre had such a dominating, near perfect series like Gran Turismo.
I hope they have the 7th gen celica in it.

you obviously suck at the game if you have to do that.

Screw that...let's hope they fixed that god awful path based computer AI. But damage modeling would've been cool too. This game is going to be sick sick sick

Here's another hugely-anticipated game that's coming out Nov.17th that includes the GT-S, among other interesting rides... Check it out:

Ya..it looks amazing..too bad no matter that they claim it's simulation part is realistic, it's not.
How realistic is it, to not have crashes? I'm talking about the kind you see in motorsports...rolling, flipping, tire-losing crashes. Jeezus. You're practically unbeatable because it doesn't model what happens when you bump into another car at high speeds.
I absolutely love the GT series, but only for the car variety and beautiful graphics....From the looks of it, GT4 might just change my mind, but I hope they've stepped up the realism of the physics.
There's nothing more that I'd like to have, is that when I screw up in GT4, I pay for my mistakes. That would step up for the realism quite a bit.
Although, I can understand why that should be an option, the game is supposed to be fun, but there will be alotta young and newbie's that will just want to have fun. But I guess that's what the Arcade part of it should be for. Hmm....

The reason they don't have damage modeling is because it's near impossible to get auto companies to agree to it as part of the license. Auto companies see the game as a commercial for their cars, and they don't want them to get all ugly and smashed up.
Screw that...let's hope they fixed that god awful path based computer AI.
From what I've read, at the latest media preview (where game reporters get to sample it) they said the AI is pretty much the same. It's too bad also because it IS horrific. How is it a racing simulator if the other cars just let you stroll on by on a straightaway?
If you want to see the difference good damage modeling makes in a game, pick up Colin McRae 2. They still let you smash into things pretty hard (I don't even know if its possible to completely cripple your car) but if you smack something hard enough to say, knock a wheel off, you won't be winning that stage.

I don't care about damage modeling, it'd be nice to have, but it's not totally necessary, ALTHOUGH, I still don't understand why auto companies get their panties in a bunch over having their cars having it.
Yepz, I've played CM2, and it's the best rally game I've ever played, the directions are great, and the damage modeling is tight. I hit trees on purpose, just to see my windows crack..heheh.
As far as the AI goes, that's another part of the simulation phase that I don't like..the AI just doesn't make you feel like you're in the game. Live For Speed has better AI than GT3 has.
GFX are great and all, but when the gameplay hasn't had an update in years, it can be a bad thing.

I don't understand either, or why Ferarri / Porsche / Lamborghini refuse to get involved to ANY degree. Too bad I guess.
Hey BTW hope you're feeling better Arch :)

I thought they were going to have some of them in this game, this time? They had Lamborghini in the Euro-Spec GT3...it'd be awesome to drive a Diablo in GT4!
Hey Blue, you should just go buy a USED PS2..they can be pretty cheap!
Thanks cam, I'm doing better, day by day. It's a VERY slow process, ya have good days, and ya have bad days. I'm having a good day, today.
What the heck are you doing up so early? :AF:

I think car damage would be good for the internet mode especially. Nothing pisses me off more in auto modellista when kids win their races because they bumped me off

I'll probably picking up this game too. I've been diggin the Need for Speed series for years.
I'll play NFS Underground when i'm feelin like some fun arcade style, and then bust out GT4 when i'm feeling like playing a simulator.
