Here's the story:

I'm getting my custom turbo kit installed at Hungary right now and i'm typing this on the floor of c2gas his house :O

So uhmmm, I got all the parts just in the nick of time but I bumped into a big problem.

I ordered the Wiseco 8.8:1 pistons from Monkeywrenchracing.com but it doesn't fit my engine.
My engine bore size is 79mm(3.11"), but I got the 79.5mm(3.13') pistons.

So I called Matt of Monkeywrench and asked him what was up with this. He told me he used to have 79mm pistons, but he decided to get 0.5mm oversized pistons.
He said all the pistons are 0.5mm oversized standardly so it would prevent a rattling sound on the engine.

c2gas says it's just plain :bs: and he says Matt of Monkeywrench made a mistake.

So, what should I do? bore my engine to fit the pistons or wait 5 weeks and get the correct size? I'm pretty pissed off right now because I spended 15 hours on driving to Hungary, I really don't want to go through this **** again and spend more on accomodation here in Hungary.

Is Matt just a piece of sh*t? Because if he's wrong, he's denying he made a mistake. He promised to refund my pistons, but I can't wait for 5 weeks and since i'm in europe... the shipping will cost me more to get my engine bored.

Oh well, let me hear from ya guys!

well the answer is easy get it bored. i dont know how old your car is but its best to start with a fresh bore (or slight hone in a slightly smaller pistons case) because your old pistons and rings seated and shaped themselves to the cylinders even it you got the "right" size some machining and mssaging would have been need because although they are for your engine a seperate set of anything wont be EXACTLY the same size. mabey ask matt to reimburse you for at least some of the cost of boring since they didnt mention this beforehand. on a related note i was comtemplating the same thing how much did you pay for the headgaskets headstuds rod bearings etc that you have to buy when you upgrade internals

if you have a 2zz disregard that and get your refund.exactly how thick is the cylinder walls anyway. take pics if you can.

Yeah engine wall is too thin its gonna be hard to bore out, but I do believe he has 1ZZ so its still possible but not exactly easy to do still. monkeywrenchracing should reimburse some money back for this error, or else raise some hell man!!

Matt's not bullsh*tting you...

It's been questioned of Toyota's close attention to in cylinder tolerances. In fact, another person I know with a 1zz who previous bought Matt's original 79mm diameter piston is now experiencing a bit of piston slap since he actually ended up needing pistons a bit larger. He did the samething as you, ordered his pistons/rods prior to removing and checking tolerances.

The solution, any future 1zz folks who plan to replace internals should WAIT on ordering aftermarket pistons until they have checked tolerances. In your case, I'd just get it machined out a bit, it definitely won't hurt (not possible on a 2zz). At least you can now get tolerances so minimal that piston slap shouldn't be a very big problem.

Ok, here's a pic of the piston ring:

Sorry, I can't really host pictures here in Hungary, but I will post all pics when I get back in Holland.

I didn't take a picture of the actual fitment between the engine and the pistons. :/

I have a 1ZZFE engine, so as from i've been reading it wouldn't be much of a problem if I were to bore it out.
I just really think that Matt could have informed his customer that we are required to have additional costs to bore it out.

Like.... if Matt actually placed the specification on his website, customers like us wouldn't be felt cheated.

I'm getting it bored today, so I won't really have a problem with my deadline(hopefully).

I'll post some more pictures soon again!
