Definately only fill your car up with premium unleaded. And stay away from "bargain gas" i.e. Arco, Citgo, Safeway, Costco etc.

Good gas.. Chevron, Exxon, Mobil

whats wrong with cheap gas? what could be problems occuring from cheap gas? I am not extremeluy picky about gas, i always go for the cheapest. Ive never had any problems.

I would stay away from bargain gas if it was anything less than premium. But in all the time I've been buying 91 gas at Safeway, I've noticed no difference in performance from buying gas anywhere else...

Premium is optimum 91-and if you need parts, let me know. hahah!!

Cheap gas sucks. hehe.

Seriously though, both my father, and brother have been in the automotive industry for years. There was once a time where my father had a customer bring their car in for service for a runability issue. Well, it turned out that the fuel had a unusually high content of water in it. Type of gas... Arco. Also, he has had numerous customer come in complaining about runability problems with their cars (hesitation, pinging, etc.). All cheap gas related. He recommends that they use a better gas i.e. Texaco or Chevron, and their problems go away (unless there is an actual underlying issue with the vehicle.)

i think it really depends on the area the gas is being pumped from... i read that different brand gas stations pump from the same oil well, the only difference is the additives they use... i myself use 89 octane for my GT.. but i guess i just got my car.

She has a GT-S which has a much higher compression ratio as compared to your GT. GT-S engines require the use of premium fuel do to their 11.5:1 compression.

Different companies use different detergent and upper cylinder lubricant addatives. Often times the cheap gas stations use fewer of these detergents and other addatives. In addition they use types that have less R&D effort put into them. Although Chevron and Shell etc. do have more addatives, some say they are not enough. I think BMW states that most gasses do not have enough detergents for their engines and reccomend people run Redline SI-1 fuel system(oddly the only one reccomended i belive) cleaner at certain intervals.

BTW the higher the octane usually the lower the amount of energy in gas. In additon higher octane means it is harder to burn the gas. So using an octane higher than reccomended is a waste and may allow for more unburned gas, thus dirtying your engine and lowering the efficiancy of your engine. This is assuming your clost to stock (Bolts ons etc, no FI or higher compression).

As I know this, I believe this to be a little too much information pertaining to the question of the original post. She just wanted a simple answer to which type of gasoline to run in her Celica GT-S. Her car is a has a high compression engine which requires a high octane fuel to prevent detonation.

I am getting a pinging sound and my engine is running ****ty at idle. Before I do anything I am going to fill it up with a different gas next time i fill it up. I am going to let it run almost all the way down. I have a GT should I try putting in medium grade gas for increase in octane. I have heard if the gas is 1 or 2 points lower than it should be then the car runs like ****.

what abot Wawa gas...is that cheap gas? Seemed like it, cause a full tank with that gas didn't seem to last as long as a full tank of exxon gas...this wasnt with my celica(hail no)...this was with another car...:chuckles:

nah...ill say 91 for a better engine performance...and clean

thanks guys Im glad I have been making the right decision by putting premium gas in my car. It deffinately preforms better than the '95 Integra I traded in for it

don't dis the cheap gas! I call it "frugal gas"

the pinging sound is relative to the money falling into your bank account by not buying the upper grades of gasoline. I read an article that all three levels of gasoline are equal, don't feed into "more expensive gas is better" :D

Sigh, I remember good ol 93 Octane-I actually filled up my gas can with some shortly before they got rid of it...I think they have 100 octane in Japan...sheesh! Imagine using that stuff!!!

To the right, you can see silly legislation, and on the left, there is a crowd of sportscar enthusiasts...a dying breed in Sacramento.
