That looks pretty good. What part of it is painted? It looks like the housing is and not the plexiglass. Did he do this himself or did he have a shop do it? It would probably look really good in red on a red car. It would be alot better than those cheesy headlamp covers from TRD.

finally..people are gonna start baking their headlights. literally. i didnt wanna reveal this idea till i had it done but..too late. put the headlight in the oven and heat it just enough to melt the seal then pull it apart..thats prolly the hardest part..knowing how long to leave it in for. then when your ready to seal it again after itsw been painted....use a silicone gone er sumthin. i'm not responsible for n e baked goods!!! thats how a shop told me to do it...later

that looks damn good. it would be better if matched to the car.

i doubt id try it tho. id be too scared to mess up not only on the painting, but burning the light and post-problems like headlight fogging.

I yanked them out and immediately tried to pry the amber lens off, but it wouldn't budge. Would the headlights and tail lights be the same way? I wanna do something similar to my Altezzas, but I'm too afraid of melting them. Would a shop be able (and willing) to separate the lens from the housing?

BTW, melting bumper lenses makes an ungodly stench!

Excuse me??? Cheesy? You just wish you had a set yourself. J/K, it may not be your style but I wouldn't call it cheesy. Come on.

When it comes down to it you are doing the same thing, except the covers are just outside and is plastic as opposed to paint.

You people aren't the first to do it or even think about it for that matter.

Some guy posted this mod weeks ago.. it was a blue Celi with the Veilside kit I believe. I would do a search to prove it but the site is so friggin slow I'm not going to waste my time.

This stuff's been done a lot longer ago than a few months...we were doing this stuff back in the mid 90's with my old '93 Celica ST...they did'nt make clear turn signals for the car so we made 'em ourselves. Took em off and baked them for a short while, pulled them apart and used that clear plastic stuff that covers flourescent celing lamps for the transparent material. A little RTV silicone and *poof* - we had clears. Also some friends of mine a few years ago dis-assembled their factory Civic headlights in that manner and painted the chrome inside. Looked good until the heat from the headlights started cracking the paint.

I have done it before... but on my friends 2000 accord...i didnt use a oven though, i used a hairblow dryer. But first it took us a total of about 8 hours...4 for the first one and 4 for the second (with 2 people working on it). thatz not including the painting part. We didnt paint it, we just took out the amber plastic strip inside.

ok, you got taking close pics down very well, but take some further away pics of these babies too.

that would look good on a black car, and i think the black looks real good on red also.
but try the red and take some more pics.

ahh the classic "clearing out honda headlamps" trick! good way to get clear corners!

i like the black housings, i wanted to do this a long time ago, even before i got my celica! but i always thought it would be hard. are the TRD tinted headlamps like this? i might wanna do this, but im afraid i wont be able to get a good seal again.

Wow, that's an awsome mod! It'd look great on a black celi (or if color just matched the car). I wana see how it looks in person

Do any of you guys think that the paint would burn because of the heat from the bulbs? That would su** if that happened. Anyone got any real instructions on how to pop the seal? I'm not sure i like the idea of sticking it in a oven. What temperature? how long? how about using those hot knives they use to loosen the seal on windshields, would that work?

SY2KCelica
11-07-2001, 12:30 AM
Anything that will heat up the seal enought to pry it apatrt will work...i suggested an oven cuz i know some shops actually to that. And le..i thought about this years ago when i saw a first supra with painted headlight housing...so there...i know i'm not the first to think about this and frankly i dont give a damn. oh and le..did josiah annd/or sam bring it up...hmmmm? hey what are you doing posting outside the sw forum n e way???are you ok??

I'm thinking of doing this headlight mod some time this month or something. I'm going to use a heat gun instead of the oven trick. Like V-TEC Silencr said, people used to used hair dryers, preferably heat guns to take out the amber lenses in accords. So I might try and see how it goes. But I just had a few questions that I need to be answered. What kind of paint should I use so it can stay on (temperature from the lights) and look nice as the pics above on kiketron car? And what seal should I use to seal up the headlights back on if I am able to get them off.

Hmm.... Looks cool. Though something I wouldn't want to mess up. I think I'll stick with the Tinted Vinyl idea. Btw, are their anymore pics of it from far away (Painted housing) Looks good close up but doesnt giv a feel to what the car would look like with them.

I reallly want those projector headlights, but last time i checked you can only get them from japan and they're illegal. is this info still current? If so, how much would it be and how likely of a cop really pulling you over?

At last!

Finally I answer your posts, I'm sorry for being so late...
:)

Well I made the headlights myself with a cousin of mine who has a PTCruiser and made it to his car first. I loved the idea and then he made mine for just 100, ALL included.
The process only took a little less than an hour, like 50 minutes to complete and mount the headlights.
For me it has become the coolest and easiest mod !

You justtake a hair drier or blower and start heating the edges of the headlight. The glue or sealing will start to melt and therefore you should proceed to separate the headlight. The headlight consists of three parts: the Top, middle (which was what I painted) and the bottom. You should use heat resistant paint, I'll later look for the exact name I used...After you paint, you just reheat the headlights' sealing or glue again and paste them. END!
If you think you have a little whole where water can come thru, just put silicone around and paste.

Any questions???
Feel free to ask...

I'll post pics from far away, so you can see how fine they look.
At night even better...
