The ECU is different from Celica GT, so your programming will be different. maybe some rearrangement on the pippings but thats not too hard to do... Not sure about the tranny in the corolla but if its the same then no worries there. You will probably want to change that intake manifold too, I hear its junk.

I believe the intake and exaust manifolds are different also....

I have a matrix, so I can shed some light.
1. 2003 corolla's and above, the hp is under rated Matrix Xr's and Corolla's have 140hp. They dyno 121hp to the wheels, I don't think you are going to do that with 130hp at flywheel. That would be the best loss percentage of all times.
2. The ECU's are different. But it doesn't affect anything.
3. The Tranny is the same but a Celica GT has a more aggressive clutch. I can tell by driving one as compared to my car.
4. The only difference, and maybe why the power rating is off. The exhaust, Corolla's and Matrix XR's have 2 catalytic converters, and a giant Resonator. If you get rid of a cat and the resonator it's the same as a Celica GT.

So is the Altima, but it shares the same engine as the 350Z and G35.

Turbo charging a celica Gt is normal since is a sport car. However Turbo charging a Family car??? i donno about that :)

I thought he was saying it was lame to turbocharge a Celica because it had a 1zz like a Corolla, which is a family car, hence lame. My mistake :)

Waste of Money???
My car has the same exact motor the gt has yet weighs 200 pounds less and has four doors not two. My car is faster, accommodates more people and is more stealth than any Celica GT. I've run against several Celicas and beat most. The only Celica I have not been able to beat is the GTS 6 speed
Toyota underrated the Corollas and overrated the Celica so people buying a Celica didn't feel bad that their car had the same amount of horse power as the Corolla does.

Wow do I wish u lived in Orlando so my GT that weighs 200lbs more could put your 4 door family car in its place. :)

are you sure your corolla is that fast? my dad has a 2000 corolla and it doesnt seem anything close to a celica.

Your car then weighs in at 2225lbs? Wow, you're rivaling the weight of a stock bodied MR2 Spyder which is rated at 2195lbs. :lame:
And how does your Corolla handle? I've driven many before and even did my friend's suspension on his Corolla. His car with aftermarket struts (Tokicos) and springs (Eibach), his car still handled like a dam boat. Whoever designed that suspenion had one thing in mind....family car! I'm an ex-7th gen Celica owner and the two are incomparable! Then again so are the Celica and my car right now. :gap:
A sports car isn't all about straight line speed.

Is your Dad's Corolla an Auto??? The Auto is damn slow just like the GT auto...
My sister had a 2000 Celica and my girlfriend wants one really really bad. I drove my sisters Celica several times and it was no different than my Corolla in speed and cornering ability. I have Tein springs and stock struts and I have no problem taking turns at speed and have trouble loosing the wheels. The turning radius on the Corolla is a whole lot tighter than the Celica as well.
I have nothing against the Celica at all. I like the looks and the car has a much faster feel to it when driving it because of the position you are in when driving but it is no faster than any Corolla with matching tranny. The cars have the same motor and same tranny (except GTS) so are not much different as far as performance. I will admit the Corolla is geared toward commuters and families but don't let that fool you as the car can keep up with the Celica any day. I've run against other stock Celicas and beat most of them. I am more than willing to run anyone at Irwindale Thursday nights. I'm all about good racing fun against other cars that match mine instead of the usual corvettes, cameros, novas and mustangs I normally get paired up with. It's always more fun to race against cars better matched.
Besides!!! After January, I'll be running with the big boys since my car is getting pistons, rods, Stafford turbo kit, flywheel, clutch and LSD. I'm hoping to get my car in the 12's before summer. So come prove me wrong before it's no longer a contest. :D

Go for it man. Since Toyota made the GTS corolla I see no reason why people think thats a waste of money. I drove that car and feels great, also there are lot of small `family` cars made by other manufacturers, and have ~200 hp.
Good luck from me.

i wouldn't call turboing a four door gay .audi quatro, jetta 1.8t,bmw 7 series, wrx ,lancer evo, grand national, grand prix 3.8 super charged, neon srt ,these are just a few four door famly cars that had punch and room for 5 .i like cars that you can drive for 5 hours and not feel like you've been in a box and when you want you can make it a 4 hour trip just by easing in to the thottle.
I can fit more girls in my car :D Anyway, there's nothing wrong with turboing a 4 door. Some people have different likes and dislikes. Besides, I think it's going to be funny when a "slow" Corolla suddenly takes off and beats someone driving a fast looking Civic.

1. Never compare stock car to modded cars
2. Never compare AT to MT (when they have the same HP)
3. Nothing wrong with the Corolla, i just hate the fact that every corolla driven comes on this NC and tell us they have a faster car then us.
BTW i'm turbo charging my car too, however don't dream too much. hitting 12's is not as easy as u thought. Also keep us updated on the SF tubo :)

I never compared a modded car to a stock car. My car is bone stock just as it came off the showroom floor. I used to have intake but that got sold off as I was not really impressed with the performance and lost too much bottom end to justify the small mid range increase.
2. Never compare AT to MT (when they have the same HP)
This is obvious since the Celica GT 5 speed is faster than the Celica GTS Auto. I have a 5 speed and have run against Celica GT 5 speeds and usually come out victorious. I have been beaten before but the driver had more to do with it than the car did. I am not the best driver but I hold my own most times. There will always be someone better that comes along and quickly places you in line.

Probably just as much as I hate people who have to bash on my car just because it has four doors and is usually driven by college students or new families. Just because your car has two doors and is geared more toward performance minded people you think your car is far superior to mine. The Celica, Matrix and Corolla are basically the same car in a different candy shell.

Hitting 12's is going to take a whole lot of blood, sweat, tears as well as a $hitload of cash that I am willing to poor into my car to make my goal. just as Vamp said above... nothing beats pulling up on a punk in his modded cookie cutter civic and kicking his ****y little erogent ass. :D
What turbo kit are you going with? Stafford has a Corolla in his shop at this very moment and will be installing a turbo this and next week. I will be visiting his shop next week to check it out and possibly get a ride in it. regardless, I know the owner of the car and will more than likely get a ride along when it's all done. I wanted to be the first Corolla but Mike wanted to get the kit finished asap. No big to me as I will be boosted in January regardless.

ive had a corolla in the past, it was my first car
1993 Toyota Corolla Two Tone Special Showroom edition
Great car, and i will always have a place for it in my heart
I now have a GT 5speed
Difference?
Corolla is an economy car, aimed at a different market
Celica is a sporty car, aimed at a different market
Go ahead a turbo your corolla, great for you, but i personally think a corolla is and will always be a corolla, a NON-sporty car
go mod up a DX civic while you're at it

If you really want to get down to it.... the celica is not a sporty car either. It's grossly underpowered compared to most sports cars and it's front wheel drive... The MRSpyder on the other hand can be considered a sports car... it's rear wheel drive and for the weight the 1zz motor is well suited but still too little power. If Toyota had opened their eyes to the market they would have planted a 2zz or a 3s-gte motor in it to really wake it up.

true...you could say a celica isn't a sports car because of it's interior, but it's a sporty car by look. remember that advertising slogan? "...it just looks fast..." i guess toyota just wanted to make the celicas a more "sporty" type car rather than a "sports" car. there IS a difference.
I'm having a custom setup done by a shop near my house. I'm using a T25/T28 Garrett. I'm going with 7 psi right now. Later, I'm putting in new pistons and rods and getting a levelten tranmission to handle the higher boost.
