man.. I figured the site would be busy when it comes back up but DAMN..

1988 posts, thats around 200 more then the highest before that.. just thought Id share the info..hopefully we can keep the site up now :)

larry, you should seriously consider charging more to your sponsors to advertise here considering the traffic this site gets. I'm sure people wouldn't mind some pop-up ads once in awhile. If this site was mine I would definetly do it , I know i am on here quite a bit and I go through withdrawl when its down

exactly what he said.. the database server keeps crashing because the connections gets maxed out at certain points in the day.. dont know why it happens.. the tech support and I are looking into it..

hell no, no pop up ads.. EVER EVER EVER.. i hate pop up ads :)... if I was gonna do that id be using some free software like Celica.net used too.. but I am going to be chaning the layout of the sponsors and costs soon.. It should advantage them and the site as well.. Im looking into getting a dedicated server eventaully

Dedicated serverS!!!!! And at least our own OC3 line!!! By next year you'll have to run an OC45 line to keep it going! LOL

You really should consider doing some of those idea quicker Larry. I know for one, I'm getting irriated, trying to get on the site, and booted because there are a) to many people b) an error or c) something is down (ie: forums or the whole site). I know I've talked to people who don't even bother trying to "stop by or even lurk now-a-days because it's always down. Yesturday is was down 2 times while I was in the middle of reading the forums. It just grows on your to be a pet peeve..

So yesturday when the site was down, I decided to go check out other boards.. and they are NEVER down. Like Honda, Honda-Tech boards.. and they have just as much or even MORE members as NC.ORG.. go figure huh? What are you doing wrong that the other sites with just as many members aren't?

I couldn't agree more on this. Put as many ads anywhere as you can. In fact I think Larry should take advantage of the huge popularity and show the stats to advertisers for more income. But no pop-ups - once web sites start showing pop-ups you lose visitors faster than you can hit the 2nd cam.

As for downtime on the site, unless you run a job to ping the site 24x7 you probably just not happen to be browsing the site when they bring it down. I know because I bounce listeners at my job a couple times a day and you do it fast enough nobody notices shhh....:D

you got about 500.00 a month laying around because thats waht a dedicated server will cost.. and if you dont believe me.. I can quote you the email I receied from honda-acura.net who I asked for their help in what their hosting.. his last month bill was 500.00 on their dedicated server and Im sorry people.. this site doesnt have enuf income over a year to pay for one month of dedicated server so ya can forget that..

and there is a reason that other sites dont go down.. its becuase other sites dont even get 1/4 the hits the nc.org gets.. if everyone was to leave here for a day and go visit their site instead you would all take down their servers.. their is no doubt in my mind about that..

Message boards take alot of processing power, and a ton of bandwidth...big ones like this aren't cheap to keep up.

Larry's doing a great job at keeping it up!

Thanks for the great site larry I can't tell you how glad I was when you said no Pop-Ups I hate those things, And yes I went through withdrawl this weekend I actually went to bed when I got home instead of browsing the board

Maybe you are right about no pop-ups, I have a pop-up killer anyway but advertisers seem to like them and pay to get exposure to the 1,000+ members of this site.

Why don't we try a little experiment. Choose another import site and head over there on a set date and time. See if we can crash them too. ;)

I've seen some pretty good places for putting ads. One of the better places i've seen are in between every 5 posts or so in the forums. They're not too bothering and catch the eye.

I'm not complaining, don't get me wrong. I was just pointing that out. Maybe that should be a goal or something Larry? I'm a member on like a million different message boards.. and I checked them out occasionaly. I do like this one because it is so popular and like "the orginal" not a copy.

Oh well, the positive side out of the whole thing is.. is that you are testing the importance of this site to it's members are. If the site has so many members on and boots a couple or shuts down for the weekend.. how many come back? All the regulars.. the vets and even the new people who didn't get to look around. Now that's a compliment.. most people would say **** it and not bother with it again.. especially if it happened more then once.

I totally agree...with this much traffic I'd charge $50-$60/month

I hadn't really been missing it much. But I've been in Hawaii for the past week, and still have over a week left. Sorry, but there's better things to do here than visit this site. :D Be back on the mainland Easter Sunday. With a wedding ring and wife...yikes!
