i have a 2001 gts with 8,158miles on it.since my last race about 2 nights ago (mustang 5.0L close call but i won)my engine is making funny ratle sound......evrything works fine including the lift mode after 6000rpm.you can only hear it when the engine is ideling it comes and goes.i used a stetoscope to try and pinpoint its location.the ratle comes from the left side of the head.has this ever hapen to someone around here????what could it be??????

It's probably your belt tensioner, does it sound like your driving a diesel? I had mine replaced at about 6,000 miles.

not realy it comes and goes.i dont feel like taking it to the dealer because of my mods.i will check the tensioner as you said.but i dont think thats the problem.if you have any other ideas please let me know ok.thanks a lot!!

Did you mis-shift? It could be a bent valve. But I would definatley think it's the belt tensioner. Get that checked first. It's under warranty and they know about that problem

make sure your coolant reserve tank is full when your car is cool, if the sound you hear is kinda a swooshing or girgling, i guess it could sound like rattling too, but just check to see that might be it.

thanks for the info.but i dont really think its the lack of coolant.i have taken all of my mods and will take it to the dealer.
i hope that its the belt tensioner and not a bent valve since i havent mis-shift.

My friend's GT-S motor makes tapping noises at idle too. We couldn't figure out what the hell it is but I suppose it is normal. His car runs fine and pulls like a champ. I think it's just a noisy motor :)

its probably the belt... that happened to me too.. i brought it in toyota and they replaced it... twice too... im hoping that it happens once more cuz they'll replace my whole car under warranty =0) then i'll be joining the 6-speed crew muahahah

Maybe YOU didn't mis-shift, but what about your girlfriend. Women can be "really good drivers".
