Because that topic has been discussed so many times...the fact is, is that it is not a possiblitly unless you have a huge chunch of change sitting in your pockets...and ashtray, and piggybang...etc...

we will have a bolt in kit available 2004, but you will still need a shop to custom wire the ECU system, or wire a programmable ecu. The programmable is highly recommended.

ECU is easy. Toysport sells Alltrac Wiring Harnesses and AEM sells the EMS. The 90-93 Alltrac harness is plenty long enough to get the EMS safely mounted inside the pass. compartment.
If you are on the west coast Toysport claims they can do the swap as well. I haven't seen them do a 7th gen one yet though, only 5th and 6th gen.
Your best bet / least expensive route is to buy a complete ST185 front clip out of Japan. They cost about $2K give or take and it will come with ECU, harness, motor, etc. You will still have to get it all fitted and installed, but at least the parts are cheap that way. Plus you can sell the alltrac parts you don't use on ebay to try and make some of your money back.

So what kind of numbers are you putting out JMS003? And how long has it been running? I'm really really curious about this. I know this costs alot but shoot it costs 4995 for the XS kit and you still need $$$ to install. So come up with 10k and you get twice the power of the XS kit with either rwd or all wheel...not bad imo.

Whoa whoa whoa...
Wait a quick sec...someone pulled off an AWD/RWD setup for a street 7th gen? Someone PM me w/ a write up or something that shows some truth behind this.

The ECU is not easy at all. I've done this swap on every gen celica and the wiring is pretty similar, then i got to the 7th gen. Unreal! everything goes to the computer first. That is the craziest thing i have ever seen. usually all the guage wires go directly to the sensors(like oil pressure and water temp for ex.), in the 7th gen they go to the ecu before they go to the guage cluster, and they don't stay the same color code! this is just one example. Long story short the wiring is pretty involved. If you don't have experience building a complete harness from scratch don't even attempt this.

540 hp @ 29psi 103 octane fuel
This project was completed in March 2003

This is my brothers Corolla pretty nice project also. His car has been running for six years now and he puts out 321 hp out of a 1.6L 4age engine, check it out.

for the last time, you can't call it a 7th gen if all you have OF a 7th gen is the body/interior - 540 is NOT with a 1ZZ or 2ZZ engine, all you have is an all-trac with a bad ass disguise ;)

I was saying that installing the ECU to get the engine functional is easy if you just use the alltrac harness. And it is. The harness is plenty long to reach through the bulkhead and can be routed through by the existing body harness on the passenger side.
And as for the guage wiring, its no different than any other newer Toyota - they have stopped using dedicated sensors for the gauges on just about everything they make now. But if you can read an EWD its not that hard to deal with.
Now you want to see TOUGH wiring, look at some of the brand new luxury stuff out there, like the Lexus LS430. Now THAT car has a monstrous wiring / electronics system. The Celica is a toy by comparison.

I guess you've done a wiring harness for a 7th gen before. Or maybe not. I am a Toyota certified master tech, and i know all about toyota and lexus wiring harnesses. I have built harnesses for just about every toyota model ever made, from converting 74 corollas to efi to doing engine swaps on 2002 camry solaras. Believe me I know a thing or two about which harnesses are difficult and which are easy. You can't just use the alltrac harness by itself you have to splice the wires into the existing harness and fuse box so everything will function properly! And I have rewired a lexus LS430 harness before (stolen and recovery vehicle). Let me put it to you this way, when the toyota dealerships have problems with vehicles they can't figure out, they bring it to my shop!

ok so whats the plan for the trans with this 2004 kit?
JMS003
11-10-2003, 11:47 AM
The 2004 kit is just a mount kit to mount the 3sgte engine and transmission in the correct position. We are also going to offer the custom intake manifold for the conversion. Or you can cut the back wall to use the stock intake manifold. You will have to take it to someone to have it wired. We are thinking of offering a standalone with a complete harness that plugs in w/o any wiring mods, but, the only definate thing is the mount kit at the moment.

Yes I have done a fair amount of electrical work on 7th gens. And yes its a *****. But the point it that all you have to do is use an Alltrac harness and it becomes easy. Of course you have to do a little custom wiring to get power and ground where it needs to be, but it beats having to rewire from scratch.
I used to work at a shop that did a lot of work on MGs. we had to completely strip the cars and rewire them to exorsize the demons that Lucas built in - believe me I know the pain of custom wiring. I also had to troubleshoot a couple electrical problems on a Zimmer once (you live in Florida so I'm betting you know what one is). ALL the wires in the harness were the same friggin color!!!
Now THAT was hard.
Engine swap wiring can be difficult, but if you have good diagrams for both vehicles beforehand and 2 good undamaged harnesses (non junkyard/sawzall removal method) its not that bad, just time consuming.
