Curious what everybody hear uses for beaters? I've been flipping back and forth between snow tires/rims or a beater. I've been looking at some early 90's 4runners. My friend has been telling me they are pretty solid engines with a lot of lifetime in them. Anybody know how true this is? 4x4 on a beater would be perfect.

Bleh so light even with tires it's not exactly good for snow.

And in answer to the topic question, a '00 GT-S :gap:

Yeah, heavier cars might have an advantage in the traction department until you take into account the greater inertia requires more traction when you go to stop. :)

Celica is a bit to light though. My old maxima did pretty well in the snow with all season tires but you do need some weight.

Besides if I sell the celica I'll be getting a RWD RX7 or a 350Z in which case I need a good beater anyway.

Curious though does anybody know about the engines in the 90-95 4runners? Are they strong long lasting engines like Iv'e been told?

I'm pretty sure the engine is still the same one they use in todays, or yesteryears 4Runners /Tacomas - 3.4L V6
Damn solid engine.
I used to have a 99 Tacoma and that engine would run strong no matter what.

Hmm well it's actually a 3.0l engine.

Here's the engine 3VZE 3.0L V6. Same engine just stroked to 3.4L maybe? If it is I'm happy because thats just what I want to hear.

I have a 1987 SAAB a 900 S. I LOVE IT. It rides WAY smoother then the celica.

Not to worried about smooth ride. Really 4x4 and long lasting is the way to go. I mean I can't see myself using it more then 2 months at most and even then I'm not sure if I'd use it everyday. Don't know how long I could keep my car in the garage.

Lucky you. I wish I didn't get any snow here ever. Would love to not have to worry about it just yet as I am going to have to divert some funds away from a few other things.

I absolutly love it everytime I see that pic bat.

Actually going to go with the 4runner I think if I can find a good one I actually found a decent priced one with fairly low miles compared to some others that should do the job. Just need a carfax run report before I go out there.

A 1983 5-spd fiat x1/9. $1.30 a month to insure. Haven't had it long enough to use a tank but its a nice little Mid engined 2 seater that should get some decent mileage.

1.30 to insure? Lol that has to be the strangest and funniest thing I've seen in awhile.

That is what it added to my preminum. $7.80 over six months or 1.30 per month. :D

I have a hard time picturing an insurance compony doing that it's just weird lol. Oh well need to go call my insurance compony and see what a 90 4runner liability will cost me.

Hmm ok I'm a bit shocked now. Insurance for a 19904runner for just liability is 162 a month my celica is only 200 a month for full coverage. Sigh.

OK anybody have a link for that site that checks out all kinds of insurance componies?

It would have been 300 every six months for full but we opted for just liablility for now. I can pay the ins with my pocket change.

For the price you can't beat this for the snow. Sleeper too:burnout:

Sigh I'm really hating insurance componies right now. Somehow my friend is insured cheaper (same age) after a major accident his fault yet here I am with granetd two speeding tickets over 2 1/2 years ago and I'm paying 50 bucks more a month for a 3 year older car.

160 for a 4runner and 100 for a 94 civic per month is unreasonable. Guess I go with not driving this winter and look into a beater next year after my rates drop this june.
