View Full Version : Florida's Puddles AKA LAKES!!
So im driving this morning here in florida with about 5 inches of rain when i come over a hill there is a giant puddle (really was like a lake) taking up the whole road, i try to drive around it but i couldnt. My car made these crazy noises and it sounded like it was about to stall. After that the check engine light came on, i pulled over to the side where a few other cars were and the cars that were there were all hyrolocked and couldnt start. Well i collected myself and drove off. Well my check engine light is still on and the car kind of has a weird smell but other then that it seems fine.
Is there anything wrong with it? I know for a fact there has to be water in the engine since i have a Cold Air Intake and my car was pratically submerged to my doors for a good 15-30 seconds.
what should i do? A friend of mine told me to let the car sit for a few days and to get some liquid called Heat to pour in my tank
what else could i do?

Why not just turn around and go back? Or push the clutch in and coast through it.
couldnt turn around its like a highway

pull the EFI fuse for about 15 or 30 sec.

Better...i did the same thing...mine would barely crank right afterwards so everything i'm tried to start it, i kinda attempted it or at least make it think i was trying to flood it with fuel until it started sputtering then i just kept my foot on the gas and shot water out my tail about 30 feet. Don't worry, your car should be fine.

Why not disconnect your CAI, remove your coilpacks, and crank the motor over? That will force the water out of the motor...

Umm, coasting through the "puddle" in neutral will not avoid hydrolock or water injestion.
The engine has to be turned off.

You got lucky you did not hydrolock your motor, but if you are idling at 750RPM then there is less of a chance that you will hydrolock your engine than if you are at 2-3k...

If you foot is off the gas I doubt you will hydrolock the car, the throttle plate is closed and it will stall before the idle air bypass valve lets enough water through to matter.
As for pulling teh plugs and cranking it...
Well that's great if the engine stalled and hadn't been driven since, but it's been driven, so whatever damage there is has already been done. No water will coe shooting out anymore, it's all been vaporized long ago.
Scott
so what do you guys think could there be any long term damage?
