Lately I have been noticing my shifting is getting tougher. It is starting to grind also every now and when I go into 2nd and 3rd gears. What type of problem is this? I have had my tranny replaced 3 times under warranty in the past 2 years and this past time they put in a new clutch, tranny, and flywheel to see if this would help. Its lasted about a year since they did this last and it is starting the same things what it did before, WTF is going on here? Toyota just keeps wanting to replace the **** every time it happens, I WANT A NEW CAR! I HAVE CONTACTED MY LAWYER ABOUT THIS TOO! BASTARDS!

It sounds like your synchros are wearing prematurely. At least Toyota is replacing the whole tranny and not just rebuilding it. Some people have had problems with the synchros while some have not. Seeing that you've had the problems often, my guess is something needs to be changed with your shifting practices. The synchros in that tranny are not the greatest, but if you're wearing them out that much faster than the other owners, the problem is starting to look like you. The chances of getting that many defective trannies when not everyone is having the problem backs this up.

I'd suggest that toyota replace the driver.
As a Brit and grew up on manuals, Bad gearboxs do occur, but are rare, two in a row would be unlikely, three and the fault is more than likely else where.

try and use mobil synthetic tranny fluid. i've driven my friends gts and it's no where as smooth as mine. i have trouble shifting into gears with his car. it almost feels like it doesn't want to go in.. compared to my tranny which is just a simple flick.

i agree with yakko. You need to ease up on the syncros abit.
let me ask you this, do you rev-match?
if not you need to.

Also, I came on here bitching about my 1-2 synchro, well I read a great article on not MANHANDLING your shifter into gear and threw in some amsoil synthetic lube...
GUESS WHAT.............................................. .................................................. .................................................. .................................................. ....
To this day, my 1-2 hasn't grinded. I shift at 8300 al the time and land lift all the time. I had to re-learn my shifting technique. I grew up on a farm. and shifted large trucks and pickups and some crappy cars.... The Celica gearbox is nothing like alot of other cars out there, most cars in fact. Possibly go to a driving school or something like that.. your shifting should be gentle and smooth,, not jabby and hard.

HELLO AGAIN! Everyone is telling me to add tranny fluid, Im confused! I thought manual tranny's didnt have any fluid and now I hear about this lube that helps smooth out the shifting? Is this something you actually add to the shifter itself or what? I have no problem with my friends celica that is a manual and it shifts real nice, easy and smooth, mine is not comparable. What the hell, i never knew there was a lube that you had to put in the shifter if thats the case, this has me really confused guys!

They are referring to the transaxle oil. It's inside the transmission. You drain it and then refill it much like engine oil. Trying going with some better oil and see if that helps. The extra lubrication should help protect the synchros from your poor shifting practices.
