I just got nailed today for "illegal" window tint (and no front plate, which was the original reason he stopped me). The cop said I didn't have a "DOT Approved rating" sticker on my windows stating my tint was the legal shade. But I had it done at a reputable place and I KNOW my tint is legal. Its hardly even noticable at all - very slight tint. This cop was a real asshole, too. Had a condesending attitude and all - and I KNOW he singled me out because of the way my car looks - he came over 4 lanes of heavy traffic just to check me out...I'm getting pissed just thinking about it....

So anyway, my question is - has anyone had to go to court over this? How can I prove my tint is legal without this "DOT" sticker? I dont have the receipt from the place that did my tint because it was like 8 months ago...Isn't there some sort of tool they are required to use to determine if its the legal shade? What can I do?:ugh:

If this shop is really reputable. go to them right away and get them to help you out.

I got pulled over the other day and I have 5% limo tint.... he just gave me a warning

I went to court over this. If the judge is known to be an asshole, your best bet is to remove it and go to court and the fine will be dropped. The DOT approved stamp is the stamp that is given by the manufacturer when the car is produced. I myself don't know many tint places that give it. And also do yourself a favor and recheck your tint law in your state. They are constantly changing. In PA now they got this new BS with going by the production year of your car and what percentage is allowed on it. But as far as your fine goes, there isn't jack you can do about it. What you can bring up is the cop didn't use a tint guage to measure your tint. That may help you out. but they will definantly use it in court. So you better hope its legal. Your best bet I say is to check your state tint law first.

Did he check it with that digital box that slides over the window. I got busted a few months ago for mine. I've got 20% on the doors (5% everywhere else). My sides checked 14%. Ticket was about $70 bucks. And no I didn't remove it.

The shop that did the tint for you should have given you the sticker saying it is legal, on this car and my last car, when the car was tinted the place that tinted the car put the sticker on, Most places if they do tint darker then legal they won't put anything on the car so they can't get in trouble, I would go back to the place and ask if it really is legal and if it is ask why they didn't put the sticker on
