Hey all, I've been looking around for a new phone. I also was curious does anyone know what Bluetooth is? Some new phones are bluetooth enabled...but I guess i'm behind in the times and have the slightest idea what it is. I have seen specific units, looks like head sets that say bluetooth on it tho. Perhaps I'm confusing the two.

Also, I've been looking at the Samsung s300...with the dual color 65K screens but no camera. Right now they running high 200's$$ does anyone know about this phone? Does anyone know about another phone that might be worth looking in to?

No need camera, would like color screen....not too bulky.

Thank all!

Bluetooth was a fantasy that was created by industry braindrains back in the late 90's. The big idea for bluetooth was for devices to speak to each other using the bluetooth protocol. Using the protocol had promised big big things for the wireless community. For example a blue tooth enabled library could automatically turn all bluetooth enabled phones to vibrate as soon as they entered the area and reset it to normal settings when it left the proximity. Similarly, bluetooth enabled handhelds or laptops could possibly automatically download a class schedule or assignment when entering specific classes on a bluetooth enabled campus.

unfortunately bluetooth standards took forever to finalize and it was slow to appear in any device. By the time bluetooth finally figured out what it wanted to do, 802.11 had taken the world by storm.

Bluetooth enabled phones simply are a "short-fi" wireless technology. It allows you to connect to your computer with no wires. of course your computer has to have a bluetooth enabled card or usb dongle.

the samsung 300 was the phone i was planning on getting. other than the fact it is smaller and has two color screens its the same as the S105... it just has different menus. to me its not worth it. There are a lot of other phones that are cooler and cheaper.

Thanks for the info on the blue tooth...i had no idea? So could u tell me any phones u think would be more worth it?

Unfortunately, I've been looking around an have only found more expensive phones that have only a few more features than the S300.....everything is customable on s300 too...like rings and screen savers..all free with the included cable and Easy GPRS.

I was looking at the new X70 Panasonic...upgraded version of the GU87. BUT just came out and is very $$$$$

I'm with AT&T...the phone i'm gonna buy will be unlocked anyways so I can use it on any carrier. =)) but unfortunately they will be a little more expensive.

For the X70 i hear that it has a flash now, the phone is smaller in dimension and weights a lil less than the GU87. I also think that there is more memory storage on the phone as well. the phone is 523$$ tho....=P A camera phone isn't that important to me I don't think.....i don't think i would use it much.

Maybe clint can analyze this and tell us the difference between his and the x70.

right now the only up side to having bluetooth enabled phones (other than connecting with your computer if its bluetooth enables as well) is that you can get a hands free piece that is also bluetooth, and it would be completely wireless. you could be driving along, phone sitting in the cupholder or passenger seat, or whatever, and the earpiece in your ear and you talking.

I gotta take a look at it... I was waiting for the new Panasonic to come out. Looks like you can download Java based games now, and of course the flash. Too bad Sean doesn't work at AT&T anymore. :(
