I'm trading down. Next Wednesday, I'm trading my GT-S for a 00 GT. I figure if I'm going to buy $170 tires this year, I might as well have a car capable of running with the best in its class. No more bringing a knife to a gun fight for me.
(ok, the real reason was that I really like my "GS" magnets...didn't want to have to make D's)

Way to go Bryan!
Do you need a co-driver? If Sally and I go to Nationals, how about 3 drivers? I'll buy the tires - and fly there to meet you!
Scott
Edit: I spelled Bryan's name wrong in the very post where I was asking to drive his car...

Topeka is a possibility...I'd love to go...I don't know how many classes I'll be taking in the fall...could be tough to take a whole week off.
If I go, consider yourselves at the top of the co-driver list!

Hmmm, well, maybe I'll have to drive the car out there and you'll have to fly (boy isn't that cushy!)

Good Call Bryan,
I realized after seeing those recalculated pax numbers from the second NASA winter event that the GTS would have a hard time. It'll be great having another strong contender in GS! Just take it easy on a brother.

Just think of all the money you'll save buying regular gas.
Welcome to Gee Stock or is that welcome back

Cheaper gas! Hadn't even thought of that one!
I expect my insurance will go down a bit, too...
Scott H.--based on the way you we're flying around the course last weekend, I'm not listening to that "take it easy" stuff!

So this means your times will improve with the GT that we all know! Right Mark?!
Just kidding. I had to rub it in. No flaming please!
I'd miss the 6k rpms kick, and the sound of the GTS engine at 8k rpms too much to trade for a GT. Why not get a Subaru Imprezza and be really competative for the same price? Or maybe an MR Spyder or Miata if you don't need to haul stuff?

Why look at other cars. The Celica GT is a great car.
A) Looks great
B) Is classed where it can win
C) It can carry "everything" you need inside it.
Hard to do "C" in a Miata or MR-2 (but I have seen it done) and while the 2.5RS makes a good STS car it's probably not a good GS car. Yes it has 4WD but it weighs over 600 pounds more that a GT and that's a ton of weight to haul around, kind of like taking 3 passengers on ever run.

afgan--no doubt my PAX times will improve...raw times, we'll never really know...I still think on most courses the GT-S would be faster (tho not as much faster as the diff btw GS and DS), assuming equal levels of prep and equivalent drivers.
erok--yeah I'll miss the rush up to 8k, but I really don't get to go there very often in my 2-mile commute to campus. I'll get much more satisfaction out of having a class leader.
Why not get an Impreza? Because I have Koni front struts ($250) that swap directly into the GT. I have 8 GT wheels ($600) that are wearing 4 brand-new Kumho Ecsta V700's ($460) and 4 brand-new Hoosiers ($620...I caught a deal!). That's about $2000 worth of stuff that I can use on my new (used) GT without lifting a finger. Plus, having driven a GT-S for 1.5 years, a GT is a nominal adjustment compared to an Impreza. And, I'm going to whoop all Impreza comers! ;-)
I wish I could have a Miata or an MR...I sold a 99 Miata to get the GT-S...I have an 18-month-old to haul.

that's kind of hard to do, if only you knew how much Bryan was paying for his new GT. Last I heard he will get cash back! You can't do that with any of those other cars...
As for the rush at 6000 rpm, when autocross is your thing, that 6000 rpm rush isn't all it cracked up to be. Nothing like short-shifting to 2nd every run just to avoid it!

I still would want a GTS Brian.
My car is fun but 40 more mice with a beefed up wire wheel would be hella fun!

Gee... last year, ES was deserted... and now it's the ringer class... :)
The more the merrier, I say... even if I am the lone wolf in the midst of a bunch of sheep. :D
