View Full Version : S/C + Nos on Auto Revisted

02-15-2002, 01:16 PM
ok, so i read the latter thread concerning the mix of a S/C and nitrous on an auto. after sifting through the bickering of the children, i found no real conclusion. so here i go.

i'm thinking of getting a 50 shot wet nitrous kit (brand to be determined - - will be based on comments provided by that other thread) sometime in the summer. i have no concrete plans on supercharging her, but the thought is definetly crossing my mind time and again. i'm afraid that after getting the nitrous it will become useless or dangerous against the s/c then go through the process of re-selling it.

goal: performance improvement

questions:
-what kind of output and torque would i expect on an auto gt with the combination?
-what kind of output and toruq would i expect on the s/c only?
-what other requirements would be necessary for the installation of the nitrous + s/c?
-what are the cons/detriments to having this combination on the auto?
-am i crazy to do this?

other comments, questions, concerns or thoughts are welcomed :wiggle:

I go back to my response on my first post and state s/c and nitrous together is a bad idea because its not needed.. for many reasons.. your best bet if your itchin for power is to put nitrous on the car now and then sell the kit once the s/c comes out or use it to shoot on the intercooler to cool down the s/c.. thats about it..

questions:
-what kind of output and torque would i expect on an auto gt with the combination?

only an auto GT owner would be able to answer this ? for you but taking a wild stab at it would be whatever shot of nitrous your running + your current hp - 20%.. thats a good estimate for an auto..

-what kind of output and toruq would i expect on the s/c only?

no one can answer that ? until the kit is available..

-what other requirements would be necessary for the installation
of the nitrous + s/c?

you should build up the block if you want to run ALOT of power plus since your an auto you wold want a level 10 tranny upgrade.. personally and I know you dont wanna hear this but if you wanna make more power trade in yer car.. anyone who has an auto GT lookin to add nitrous and s/c is never gonna be happy with their car.. get something thats ALOT faster from the factory first..

-what are the cons/detriments to having this combination on the auto?

your gonna break your tranny in time if you dont build it up.. www.level-ten.com

-am i crazy to do this?

simple answer.. yes

Ah luna. i dont want to sound rude thats not what i am trying to do, but ahh. the TRD s/c's are NOT universal. and no one has one yet, and i doubt there will be any intentions of one. its not really an issue............You could get a custom turbo kit, you do come from miami right? there plenty of crazy batards there that will do it.

Perhaps you might want to pm "jcar". I believe he has a NX setup on his auto GT.

larry, thanks for the info. you always provide good tech info. i'm still debating about the trade in. but i think if i went through the hassle of trading her in, i'd probably get another car that has a bigger aftermarket available. i dunno.

adam, you're not rude you're just honest. and that's ok. i'm aware that the supercharger is not universal, those things aren't even out yet. it's called project planning. i love to plan.

thanks slant for the reference.

Trade in not worth it
Your going to lose 6,000 bucks to trade it in.
Your better off taking out a personal loan for 6g and getting full level ten transmission work and getting turbo or supercharger

only reason you might want nos on sc/tc is to spool up a turbo, or maybe spray a really, really small shot at the upper echelon of the powerband when the power starts to die out. but that's pretty crazy.

it would still be worth it..s/c auto vs s/c 5 or 6spd is a world of difference in power and manual is SOO much more fun to drive

I've never dynoed my gt auto with the NX kit, but theoretically it should give you the following:
140hp stock +
50hp to wheels (50 shot NX kit) = 57.5 hp to crank
Engine + Nitrous = 197.5hp at the crank
subtract your 20% transmission loss =
Theoritical total = 165hp to the wheels

Now, I can tell you this, my 1/4 mile time went from a high 16 down to 14.9. I have consistently beat my friend's stock Grand Prix GTP (documented 1/4 mile time 15.1sec) by on average a car length in a 1/4 mile. Unfortunately we don't have the most accurate timing devices, and our track is an abandonned air strip, so I can't give you any slips, but I can tell you that I've had the system for close to a year now and no signs of transmission problems.....and it's sure a hell of a lot of fun. In my opinion the longer gears of the automatic transmission benifit more from nitrous than say a 6 speed, meaning I think you will see a better improvement from before and after by spraying a GT Auto compared to a GTS 6-speed.

thanks jcar! i've put an order in for the headers, and will be looking to other "preventive" actions i can take prior to getting the nitrous. why did you choose the nitrous express kit though? i'm tryin' to decide on which kit to save for. i kinda want the venom kit cuz then you can program it but i've read some conflicting arguments.

Luna if you come down to Miami your best bet will be ToyoMoto. I don't have their adress off hand, but I'll find it for you if you want it. They deal strictly with Toyota cars. I've seen some of their work 1st hand and its impressive to say the least. Their is one tradeoff though. They are fairly expensive to work. Some of their more notable work is doing 2Jza80 swap's into IS300's and also making SC300 twin turbos. They also have an in-house dyno. Let me know.

-Dan

P.S.- Here's the link to their website. I'm even tempted myself and see how much they'll charge me for custom piping and what not. ToyoMoto (http://www.toyomoto.com)
