Hey guys,

I'm not sure, if I should just stay with the borgwarner K04. If it can provide 0.9-1bar till 6500rpm with enough flow, thats ok for my purposes.
Do you think the K04 is good for 1 bar? How much whp would you estimate at 1 bar in a celica with a compression of 8,8:1 custom 3" downpipe and 3" exhaust?

Thx a lot, Thomas

Sorry, right! Celica GT!

If I had to take a guess I would say around 270whp or so. Thats a really rough guess though.

Should be enough for me. I think I'll be happy with real 250 DIN HP to the wheels.

That's ok for our front wheel drive celicas.

Ok I think anything more than 240hp to the wheels on a front-wheel drive is oerkill, on top of that think about getting it to hook worth a damn!! I would be extremely happy with my 1zz pushing that much hp!!

I don't understand why people say "insert HP here" on a front wheel drive is overkill. All you have to do is tune the car to allow for maximum traction.

Dave Draper sent me a PM a while back that states, "The K04 is good to over 250 WHP, so it's as much as the stock internals can handle, but you'd be boosting A LOT, like 17,18,19 PSI to get there."

There are some RX-7 kits that run K04's and they run 300+ whp.

Single or twin-turbo?

I will rebuild my internals and I will get a boost controller. So I don't think that Front Wheel Drive will be that problem.

Traction in 1st and 2nd gear will be bad, sure. But I can tune it to very low boost in 1st and 2nd and full boost in 3rd. That should be ok so. Remember that we've got the Autobahn here.

Thx for your answers! I think (but I'm not sure, yet) I will go with the K04 it's cheap and spools fast. Thx again.

You'd be good to 250hp reliably if you're properly tuned (PowerFC, low boost at low RPM, raising as you go up so you have better traction, slowed timing, proper fuel management). I can't make any promises past that. I wouldn't push our transmission past 300hp, but the engine can handle it.
