Since Ford is now starting to get into the import game with the SVT Focus and Chevy has been doing concepts of riced out cavaliers, how come Toyota can't stick the Tundra V8 into a car?
It could be their version of a Mustang. Sure cost of a new platform would be something to consider, but look at the Mustang it has its own platform. Since the engine is already developed, that would save a lot of money.

If you gonna say I'm crazy, and that Toyota would never do such a ridiculous thing. Take a step back five yrs ago, and tell someone that Toyota was going to make a full size V8 truck along with a full size SUV, and that Lexus would have two V8 SUV (the soon to be released GX470 and LX470).

Wouldn't it be cool to have our version of a muscle car?

A v8 celica would be sweet!!

But Toyota takes the cars they build for the japanese economy and reworks it a little bit for our standards. If they made a V8 coupe in japan, then they could bring it over here.

But they won't do that because a V8 coupe would sell like ass in japan, and these days, Toyota only makes mainstream cars.

The most we could hope for is a V6 coupe, but they are reserving that for the Solara.

What would be great is if they made a 2 liter vvtli with a good amount of engine bay room, and rwd and trd released a supercharger. Then we would be set.

ok let me tell you something....

if Toyota wanted to put a V8 in a sports car, it would be on the next gen supra. The celica's whole concept is to have a light, sporty car which is fun to drive. If you put that in, first you'd need a RWD conversion after which the balance of the car will totally destroyed, it will be a nasty unbalanced car to drive, sure it might be fast in a straight line, but thats not what the world is looking for. It seems that its a very american thing to put V8's on anything. first imagine the cost of the car (no such thing as cheap v8s outside america)... second imagine tax (usually varies with cyllinder), third fuel consumption, it costs me 50 bucks to fill up my celica, so imagine with a V8...

The best would be to have a special edition midengined V6 celica, now thats fun. to comemorate toyota's entry to formula 1 along with the new gen supra.

the focus RS has little to do with the import scene in the US. let me explain. The focus is designed in europe for the european market, and its doing good, especially in the UK. over here there's a hot hatch competition going on with the civic type-R, gold GTi, clio sport, 206 GTi etc etc. Focus wants in on this, and created the RS, with the rallying image they have. These hatches are snappy and very quick, it would burn muscle cars in a twisty road. they are seriously fast. I saw the RS at the brussels motor show in january, it was a pretty car, but the type-r is my fave hatch back so far...

last thing... its not necessarily more cillinder the better.

i'd never buy a V8 celica... yuk!

Wait a minute,
wasn't the first Supras a Celica 'Supra' before it was its own namesake.
I think the best combination would be a V6 turbo. Relatively, weight to HP ratio this would be the way to go. For instance, our GTS puts out 1 HP per 100cc- So..a V6 at 3.6 liters could give 360HP then add turbo. Yeeeesssss!

If wishes were HP..Man I'd be fast!
On the other hand, I dont care how fast you make a Focus, I want a sports car to look like a sports car. Sorry.

Celica gte racing, I wasn't meaning putting a V8 in the next Celica. I was meaning making a whole new car to put the V8 into, so that Toyota would have a rice rocket and a ponycar. If they can make a Tundra cost the same as a F150, how come they can't make the musclecar under $30K?

I like that idea,
But a performance built V8 is gonna be expensive.
(2) high lift cams perfectly coordinated, and how many valves would that be? like 32. I could only imagine the power.
Jumpin Jimminey Man! That would be nice!

Hmmmm V-8 on a Toyota Sports Car or on a Celica???? That would be hella expensive... Only daymn rich boys could afford to buy one of those.

And if Japanese cars would have an affordable V8 car, all the American cars will be ignored and you might see the last of the American cars on the streets because they are loosing $$.

I was kinda studying this also but why does American sports cars, they have bigger engine to have more HP???? and take a look at the Japanese cars, they have smaller engines but u can modify it get get more HP but if Japanese cars would have bigger engines then dang, we would be smoking the Stangs and the Camaros out there in the streets ;)

hm.. v-8 or higher celica... that would totally have to make a brand new design... which would be intresting to see... but then gas would be a pain... but think of the possibilites with that... making it all wheel or rwd.... but then they would have to make our cars a lot bigger which would add more weight.. which isnt good.. and after that.. it would be a bit pricey.... very pricey... the car would be costing a pretty penny.. i dunno its a good idea and at the same time.. a bad idea
