so i found a 02 WRX with 3inch thermal catback exhaust, injen cold air intake and a turboXs blow off valve, they want $20.000 for it and it has 20.000 miles on it, i was debating trading in my 01 celica gts (after i take off all my parts) with 22400 miles for the sub'y, what do you all think?

ive seen some 02-03 WRX go out for 23-24k new.
that 3 inch catback isnt doing much with the stock downpipe. CAI is useless without engine managment can could lean out the car. A short ram would be better and the BOV is useless until over 20psi.
Doesnt sound too bad of a deal. you should go for it.

Have fun installing the uppipe and downpipe. Me and F22 have installed those items 4 times and its quite the job. Get a boost controller & turbo timer while your at it.

20k is an exorbitant price for a 02 with those mods. You can get plenty of them in the 15-18 k range with more mods on them. For 20k you can get car that are in the Stage 4 range that run high 12s

I will own a WRX one of these days. I'd trade it in if I were you, but only if you could talk them down in price....

I got my uppipe already and I love the extra power now, a little bit faster spool up and now the powerband is real smooth like a babies butt, but i did like the jump in TQ before. Thinking of going PDE or Helix downpipe.
The only thing about MBC's (Manuel Boost Controller) is the PTFB (Partial Throttle Full Boost). I want to do it, but im not sure how much of a risk i will be taking without a EGT gauge. An EBC would be a lot safer, but is much more expensive.
Yea Talk them lower and have the Tranny Inspected. You don't want to buy a car where the tranny is on the verge of breaking. Have Fun.

lol thats right join the masses and migrate to the other side (turbo side). personally imo i would keep the gt-s. i have driven both and to be honest, i wasnt impressed at all. Yea its got great low end launching and 1/4.....take one on the highway at and you will see where it lacks.....i guess its just a matter of what kind of driving you like. I do a lot of highway driving so i like to be able to pass something when needed enjoyably :)

Isn't a reflash worthless without the rest of stage 2 installed?

I'd have trouble buying a used WRX with mods. If the car was so great, why did the previous owner get out after such a short amount of time?

Leasing is popular with Subaru's.
And I get to installed headers and an uppipe on my Rex this weekend. 8 hours of fun.

16,000 miles and running like a champ.
Buying a car with mods should make it cost LESS than the blue book value, talk him down . . . he knows that he can't sell it to a retailer for as much as you'll buy it.

As has been said that's a poor price, you should be able to talk him wayyy down. I'd want him to put all the stock parts back on. CAI can be harmful, BOV is useless, and there are excellent sounding catbacks out there (I've never heard of this one). Honestly the fact that there were such dumb mods installed would worry me sincerely about the car.. 10 minutes of research would have shown that those things are dumb. Owner might have just had some modded Honda before the WRX, installed the CAI because hey, CAI's are always good, right, and installed the BOV coz he wanted to show off that he had a turbo now, and then shifted like a gorilla all the time, coz hey, you can do that when you have a FWD car with no diffs, why would a WRX be any different? :D
Boost controller - as Rally Performance says on their website: "NOTE: We caution against making a boost controller your first modification, as we literally service one engine per week in the UK that has been ruined by boosting without proper engine management. In fact, if a customer insists on an adjustable boost controller, we ask when they want to make an appointment for the engine rebuild... "
BTW, upgraded clutch - not a great idea unless you like pulling trannies, the stock one is fine even w/ a good amount more power than stock.
There are much better engine management options, yes, they are more expensive than an MBC, but it's better than blowing your motor.
Stock reflash - Cobb's AccessECU Stage 1 (assumes you are bone stock) is $400 and they claim 260 crank HP.
Oh yeah. If you are willing to buy a modded car with 20K on the clock, BUY THIS ONE :)
