Can somebody explain to me what exactly boost creep is, and why it is supposed to be more of a problem for setups with internal waste gates? Thx.

If I am correct, boost creep occurs when the boost level continues climbing past the target boost level, due to insufficient wastegate flow.

That would be correct. The wastegate doesn't let enough exhaust bypass the turbine, so it can't slow down, causing your boost to slowly rise. It's more of a problem with internal wastegates because the ports are much smaller in comparison to external wastegates. You can always switch to an external wastegate setup or machine the port larger and get a bigger wastegate flap.

is an internal wastegate a requirement for smog certification?

If you plumb it back in I wouldn't see anything wrong with it, but if you dump externally then guarentee that's probably illegal...

so "external wastegate" doesn't mean it dumps straight to atmosphere?
