The new: I loved my celica. The chassi was great, the drivetrain was kinda quirky but a hell lotta fun. an LSD and the car would've been perfect, except it's driving the wrong wheels...The downside though as I point out in that other post is I'll be a few more grand in the hole if I buy another one, and that's not good considering I changed to working part time and am going back to school (I worked my butt off to pay off $13,000 in one year!).
The old: I've always wanted one of these. the only toyota platform with the 4age in a front engine RWD setup. The MR2 has a mid-engine layout with the 4age but I think it's setup is beyond the scope of my abilities. and it would be cheap too (although lately the prices have been going up on them).....they're old though and pretty hard to find. as it is most of the 86's that I can find are located in california. I've never driven one though and I don't want to buy it if it's chassi doesn't meet my standards. steering feedback, brake feel, braking power etc. (I was spoiled by the celica).

The ugly: maybe a 2zzge powered ae86 with a rollcage? hmmm....

what do you think? the tranny on the celica GTS is basicly the same as the celica GT which utlizes the C52 toyota tranny, which was used in conjunction with the a-series engines....

new engine mounts would probably be fabricated but everything else should be pretty easy....well as easy as something like this could be :D only thing I can see that may pose a problem would be the steering rack and assembly......

Chee, the thought of a 2ZZ-GE in a AE-86 isn't that far fetched. From what I've heard and seen, the AE86 was the handling king back in its era and its handling is still highly regarded today. I'm personally considering of getting one to learn how to drift in it Japanese style as a project car.

Just to go to this link below to have a look at a AE86 with a Honda F20C engine transplant . http://www.club4ag.com/faq%20and%20tech_pages/HOT%20STAFF%20Part%20II%20-%20S2000%20Motor.htm

my other crazy idea is to convert the celica to RWD. it looks feasible enough as there is a lot of clearance in back for the rear differential (if you cut out the spare tire well and take out the main muffler chamber, both of which I was planning on doing newayz). take out the gas tank for a fuel cell and cutting a hole into the firewall to clear the tranny should be easy enough. muffler can just run out the side. just need a better look at the rear suspension to see how to connect it to the wheels....

maybe I should contact RMM on how they did their rear....
