Has anyone here ever heard of Nokian Hakkapeliitta Q tires? I live in Vermont and i need a good set of winter tires. I havew heard these are the best. anyone who lives in the frozen north or in a place that gets a lot of snow ever heard of them?

Nokian Hakkapeliitta Q ... never heard of 'em.

But Consumer Reports rated the Michelin Arctic Alpins as the #1 snow tire.

I saw a comparison where these tires were rated higher then the Blizzaks. Rated the best non-studded tire. I know they are not available in very many places. I guess they are popular in norway and those northern european countries. I believe consumer reports would not cover this tire because it is not available in all parts of the country.

Consumer Reports also took into account all aspects of the tires performance.

I think the hard-core tread compound Blizzaks were superior on ice, but the Arctic Alpins performed better in the other areas (snow/dry/wet). I don't have the comparison in front of me, so I might be off on the specifics.

The comparison I saw also compaered all aspects. the Nokian was just below the blizzack in snow and ice traction but the Q had much better tire wear characteristics and dry handling. the traction ratings were like 100 for the blizzacks and 98 for the Q's.

They sound like pretty good winter tires then.

Of course, I already made my decision last winter. Michelin Pilot Alpin winter tires with a 130mph speed rating :D.
