one says its an engine damper

while the bars in the wheel well say its a original side tower bar.

Does anyone know the functions of those items?

The engine damper looks pretty complicated. it would have been easier to change the engine mount to a stiffer compound. The fender brace is likely an aftermarket piece. i have never come upon that piece on any Toyota site. its not even mentioned in the m-spec brochure. The effects of the brace seems negligable. Still very intresting. The japanese people are really optimistic when it comes to modding:)
