Need some help guys. A friend of mine has a 2000 Camry that she bought thru toyota certified preowned program. She was cruising along yesterday and her car started to rev very high (she has a 5 speed). All the sudden she had smoke pouring out of her tail pipe. She had the car towed to the stealership and they said she blew her clutch and because it was wear and tear it is not covered. Also why her clutch blew they said that some debris got into the tranny and messed it up as well, so it is going to cost $1700 to fix. Now I understand that the clutch is wear and tear, but there was no warning signs at all that the clutch was going. I talked to her boyfriend who drives the car and he said there has been no clutch slippage at all. I found that the clutch master cylinder and release cylinder are covered, but that was about it. Also I was told that it is unlikely that smoke was coming out the tail pipe from the clutch. Could this be the result of the clutch messing up the tranny? Any help here would be great.
