what is the best carbon fiber hood for the money? any opinions will help

theres alot of diferent opinions on this.. personally i own a VIS and it fits perfect, others have had problems with theirs.. then theres fiber images, some here have said it is ****, but i've seen one that was emmaculate. and theres a host of others out there too. so i guess it's just how lucky you get when you buy.

ooooooh nooooo! theres was a group buy back in the day these and everyone that bought one had problems with it. the finish was bad, fit was krap, etc.

i know this guy around here that got one and it looks pretty good, I was thinking about Fiber Images or O.E. Tuning, but i heard some bad things about Fiber Images and now im hearing bad things about O.E. So which CF should i get????

OE Tuning made hoods for AE86 owners as well. The local guys who bought them all had problems with the clear coat getting really screwed up after just 6 months.

The VIS hoods I've seen are of much better quality.

of course you never had problems with your high quality jdm hood...:chuckles:...id get a jdm one(i.e. C-One, Varis, Veilside...) since you know their stuff is high quality...its pricey but you can't beat the overall quality...

I would place them as the front runner of domestically made hoods. All the DG hoods I've ever seen have been absolutely amazing both in finish and fit. Expect a really thick coat of clear and a perfect CF pattern.

And yep, I love my C-ONE hood... but it's an ultra-lightweight performance hood that won't have the luster of a show hood. Also, JDM hoods have been known to degrade (yellow) after prolonged periods of sun exposure -- so you have to maintain a good coat of wax on them at all times.

There's no thick coat of clear or UV protectant on this one, but it is the lightest hood available with very high strength. At 100mph with no hood pins this hood does not lift or rattle. Body lines match absolutely perfectly.

If you do spend the money to get one, make sure you're aware that you're buying this kind of hood more for performance than looks. Side by side, a VIS or DG hood will have more visual appeal over the C-ONE, altho JDM hoods use a higher count carbon fiber weave and the look is very different.

DGMotorsport carbon fiber hoods are very nice. Mine the body lines match up perfect and the finish is great. The weave doesn't have any waves or anything like that.

Man I can go on and on about VIS and there damn hoods. I have said enoug h iguess before I start getting ugly about VIS!!! Don't waste your money man. Well hell if your that interested I might sell you mine that I have $800 in for say $200, now thats a smoking deal. Let me know. I think I have learned my lesson and am looking int o a real quality hood like maybe a Spoon OEM or real C-One hood.

Mine has a gap on it like Avenge2c has, the weave wasnt the greatest but I can licewith that, it doesn't line up perfectly, the latch didnt work I had to modify my stock latch for it to work, my hoodscoop had a huge dimple in it so I had the body shop fill and sand that the best they could which then forced me to paint the hoodscoop, which I didn't mind, the same color as my car. What really pissed me off though was when I went to have my hood recleared the guy seemed to think he could get some trash out of the gel coat and we were not successful, this was a very bad idea. Somehow between us trying to get trash out of the gel coat we recleared it 11 times wetsanding it in between each coat but for some reason its not as reflective as I thought it would be. Oh well that may be because of the guy's crappy wetsanding reclearing technique, but any how on top of all that they managed to leave all these tiny dimples allover the hood, basically they were there when the hood left VIS but by reclearing it so many times it brought out every depression on the hood, so now I have little dimples all over my hood which you have to really look for to see but they are there. I have had nothing but good comments about itbut I am an anal person especially when I have $800 in a freaking hood I want it to be right, which I thought about taking it back to the shop that cleared it but I figured they might do more damage than good.

Pretty expensive but worth it. Honda and Toyota Matrix hoods I've seen from DG are of incredible quality and if I were to buy something stateside I would spend the money on that. With DG you really get what you pay for. :thumbup:

dude ive seen one, and the fit was crap, but it's APC, what did you really expect from them. :D

oh and the APC's have been out for a long time now. the one i saw at a meet was over a year ago.
