Hi everyone - Awesome site here. Anyways, I just turned 16 and I'm driving an Infiniti J30 ("SAFE"), yada yada, anyways - I'll be getting a new car in a couple years, sometime around spring or fall 2004 (Graduation, you know).
Well anyways, I will need a pocket rocket then. I always loved the Prelude, but with it's (un)timely death, the Celica is my fave currently on the market.
So, I was wondering, any speculation on the generation change? I hope it doesn't happen a year after I buy a Celica, but I dunno. I'd rather wait until the next generation is revealed and make my pick, but we'll see.
Any speculation? Thanks.

This generation of Celica (7th) was launched in Japan in summer 99'. So you expect that a full model change will happen in Japan in summer 2003. And in the States I guess the change will be half a year following that in Japan.

With that, I don't think there'll be any radical changes.. maybe the lights and a bit of the interrior. I'm betting nothing major.

The 6th generation Celica was never a good seller, and they're selling 7th gens like hotcakes. They may leave well enough alone until sales start to slide. The 6th gen was new in MY1994, and was just replaced in 2000, I think it's safe to say the 7th gen should last at least that long.

You never know. The sad fact is, 7th gen is not selling well in Japan because of its heavyweight contestant Honda Civic Type R/ Integra Type R. As I have pointed out before on this board, in Japan some professional racing drivers test drove these cars and raced them on the circuit. Celica completely lost out to Type R series. And although I'm also driving Celica GTS, I would say if you are some kind of die-hard racing cats, pick the Type R series. It won't be wrong.
In case you guys are interested in these battles and a story behind Type R, pick up 'Best Motoring International Vol. 1' in amazon.
But sadly, I don't think Honda is selling type R series in the States.

Yeah, I'm sure the Type-R is a great car. But are you willing to pay, I don't know 5 or 6 thousand dollars more for only 20 more horsepower.
I'ts just an opinion.

well they have some type-r series cars here in the states...we get very few acura integra type-r here every couple of years..they are very rare..i think there is no such thing as acura outside of the states..i believe it is just referred to as the honda interga type-r ..also we were supposed to get the civic type-r here this summer coming up but they cancelled it and now we have to see thoe new si's ..i dont like them

You are driving a J30 and you are worried about what mommy and daddy are buying you next?!?!?! The Celica will most likely undergo at least some minor changes before m&d buy you a $20g+ car. Don't worry, the change can only be good. Most likely to change is the looks a little, and some things could use improving. If you are lucky (even though you already are and probably don't appreciate it) they may offer some power upgrade. By Fall 2004, there will be alot of new great cars available. What should mommy and daddy buy you... an '89 Honda accord. If you earn the money, possibilities will be many for under $30,000. Right now it is too early to speculate the great possibilities that await in 2004. Seems to be a sports car revolution these days. Retards are dwindling (a-holes that buy SUVs) and they are realizing fun cars are much better than big cars. Happened slightly in the late 80's into the 90's before the SUV, and it is starting to happen again. Hold on because technology is starting to get crazy sick, and future cars will be awesome. Can't predict what is to come.

Why are you flaming this guy? Did it ever occur to you that maybe his parents didn't go out and buy him a new J30? Maybe they gave him their old car to use. He said he's "driving a J30", he didn't say his parents bought it for him. He did say his parents were going to buy him a car for his graduation. Whats wrong with that? Do you know how many parents buy their kids a car for a graduation present? Thats because most kids will be going to college and need transportation, and to visit mom & dad they need a car. One other thing, I have 2 kids that like the fact we have a SUV to take them out where we go together as a family. We have our Celi as our fun car for my wife & I to enjoy. Now I'm not flaming you, but you need to chill. L8r
