For starters, you have an AE86, why would you need to go to a junkyad and get the stock AE86 LSD, you already ahve the stock AE86 LSD.
Give the car a tune up and a bath. New plugs, wires, cap, rotor, etc. If it has been sitting much it's likely to need a brake job, make it stop so you don't smash it.
Subscribe to Grassrots Motorsports, they ahve a project AE86, at least check their website for details.

Not all AE-86's ie Corolla GTS's had the LSD stock. I believe it was an optional accessory, as my '85 didn't have one. :-(
Extremely fun car none the less. Enjoy your time with it..no other car made since can compare.

not all AE86 came with lsd..at least not in US. I know my brother's didnt come with one.
anyways like autoxr said..tune that baby up with the usual stuff and check up on the general things.
id have to agree on the INITIAL D anime...but over here in the bay area at cali you have too many kids copying stupid **** like that and not knowing the limits of their cars. results....flying off cliffs and crap. not good at all. practice getting sideways on empty parking lots..its fun.

You learn something new every day. I really thought all of the AE86 cars came with the LSD. Guess not.
Anyhow, you can figure that out from the VIN plate (under hood or in door jam, not sure where it was on those models).
Look for the trans/axle code.
It will be something like T50/T283
The first number is the transmission code (T50 in my example), the 2nd number is the axle code.
T: Ring gear diameter (6.7 inch in this case)
28: Gear ratio (no correlation to the actual ratio, a "28" is actually a 3.4:1 ratio)
3: Differential type,
2 = 2 pinion no LSD
3 = 2 pinion LSD
4 = 4 pinion no LSD
5 = 4 pinion LSD
sounds interesting....
i would love to get one and tune it...
the junkyard.. was gonna give out a Collora GTS to us for free, but the engine is broken,, need to swap a new one so i give it up

you can get another 4ag for 400 or cheaper. you can even put the new 20 v 4ag as long as you have the ecu with it same the supercharged 4ag from older gen mr2's

Year makes no difference, just what the original shopper bought.
It's tough finding junkyard LSD's, they are a bit rare. There are also differences in the axle size mid way during the AE86 run, so you can not just get any LSD, the later AE86 cars used a thicker axle.
Of course you can get a TRD, or Quaiff unit, it just costs $$$.

Okay, I've heard a lot about the AE86 and its drifting capabilities, but are they fast? Can you modify the thing very easily? The reason I'm asking is because I have a neighbor that has one and he puts it up for sale on and off - one day he's selling, the next day he's not. It says Corolla GT-S on the back. Is this the same thing as an AE86? They sure look the same...

its a AE86 if its an 86 coupe/hatchback...check out autoxr code. you might get lucky if he has an lsd. anyways these cars arent meant for dragging. although you can make these cars fast and tune it really easy. toyota engines response to mods really good. if your really a car nut you can put a rotary engine on this n have this bad boy fly..lol. if you decide to get it have fun with it!!

I know these people who were featured in Grassroots magazine. I see them the majority of the time at our local auto-xes.
There is a high likelihood I will see Dirk at our local SCCA meeting next Tuesay, if anyone wants to PM the questions to me, I'll print
them and hand it over to him. Either he will e-mail you directly or just give me the information to pass along. If you read the article, he works for Toyota, so any information that comes from him, is directly from the source.

the AE86 is quite light, and you could easily tune the 4A-GE to 140 or more horses, naturally aspirated. (it has like 120-something stock i think) in a chassis that's probably lighter than the Celica GT (autxr: know the curb weight offhand, by any chance?).
it really isn't meant for dragging at all though, but it could be successful at it, seeing as how it's RWD.
you could turbo the 4A-GE too. or supercharge it. cool little engine. i wonder though, if you could swap a 3S-GTE in there...that'd be a monster.

Teh AE86 came in FWD also (the Sedan/5-door hatch with the 4A-LC)....of course, when someone says AE86, they always referred to the Levin/Trueno.

No, an AE86 never came as a front drive car, it wouldn't be an AE86 then.
An AE92 GTS on the other hand is a front drive Corolla GTS with 4AGE engine.

Doing some memory search (I function best while behind the wheel)...the 1984-87 FWD Corollas were the AE82
