today i was talking to a salesman and he said you can replace the computer chip in celica so the "lift" kicks in earlier than 6000rpm...is that true?

Actually, you can't. We don't have a "chip" in our cars. You would be looking at the entire ECU, or de-solder then solder. Not easy stuff for the average joe.

Was this a salesman at the dealership? They usually know absolutely nothing about the cars, especially the aftermarket. Apparently the **** that comes out their asses isn't enough, so they feel the need to let some out of their mouths.

My friend, who works at Liberty Toyota, parts/service, who also drives a 01 GTS said that he was shipping his ECU out to have the instructions re-burned so that VVTL-I starts at 4500 RPM.
I told him, I'm not sure thats a good thing or not? We'll see, he should have it back soon.

Is there one that kicks in at 1000rpm and all the way to 8000rpm?

Cam switchover is not as simple as you think. You can't just make it kick in much earlier.

Why not just make it kick it when you start the engine & get it over with.
