i really want to keep my trunk space so i wanted to custom mount a plexi glass enclosure in my spare tire well and make it flush to the floor.....i want to go with JL subs but still debating whether or not to go with a 10" sub or a 12"...i orginally wanted to go with a 12" w6 but my fren told me a 10" has a deeper bass sound....and even told me a w3 would be fine....wat do you guys think? oh and as far as mounting in on the spare tire well, would a 12" be too big? btw, reason why i'm asking is because i could pick up a 12" w6 for $125....sounds like a good deal right? it's used for 4 months and is supposedly in good condition...haven't gone to check it out yet though....so wat do u guys think? go for the 12" w6? or jus buy a brand new 10" w3? help please! thank you!

a 12" is going to have deeper sound, while the 10" will be tighter..

tighter (10")- a more crisp, sharper note when the base hits
looser (12")- a more boomy sound

A 12 pushes more air and can hit lower and harder (typically) than a 10. Either way, if you power them to their capacity you will get noticed. Tell us what kind of music you listen to and we may be able to help you out more.

oh okay i see the difference now...thanks for clearing that up for me....as for the kind of music i listen to...i listen to all kinds...depending on the mood and situation i guess...i don't know if that helps but i guess i like music that has a good beat and good bass....probably don't listen to enough music that has real low bass so i'd probably go for the more crisp, sharper bass notes....oh and one more question...wat kind of amp should i run a 10" w6 with? and how many watts?

Come on man, we can't do all the work for you. Look up the specs for the sub. Power handling, impedence, single or dual voice coil, mounting info, and box volume specs. JL's web site has all the info.

Think of your music, does it have lots of short bursts (drums) of bass or is it slow and low (bass guitar).

alright dude...sorry, i'm kinda clueless about all this audio stuff...that's why i'm asking for you guys help...anyhow, i'll try and do some research on the subs and i'll post all the info you need....as far as the type of music i listen to....i guess it would have to have short burts...hope that helps

alright got the info from the site:

The 10W6 is a potent 10-inch subwoofer with very long excursion capability and exceptional sound quality at all listening levels. Designed to extract maximum performance from higher power levels. This speaker works extremely well in sealed and ported enclosures and its dual 6 ohm voice coil design gives the user a high degree of application flexibility.

Nominal Diameter: 10 inches (250 mm)
Continuous Power Handling: 300 Watts
Voice Coil: 2.5" diameter, 4-layer, Kapton former
Available Configurations: Dual 6 ohm
Xmax (one-way, linear): 0.47" (11.9 mm)
Sealed Enclosure Range: 0.40-0.80 cu.ft. (11.5-22.5 liters)
Ported Enclosure Range: 0.90-1.25 cu.ft. (25.5-35.5 liters)

does that help?

if its a dual 6 ohm impedance, then each sub is going to give 12 ohms resistance. So if you're gonna use an amp and bridge it, it needs 4 ohms. For that you're gonna need 3 speakers. With only 2 speakers you'll have 6 ohms resistance, and then you won't get as much power out of your amp as you should (you aren't impedence matching).

None of us mind helping, but you have to do some of the leg work yourself and you'll learn more that way.

How many 10s are you planning on running? Like liquid said, you'll need 3 of these to match up to most commonly found amps. Your best bet is to find a sub with either 2 or 4 ohms if you plan on running just one of them.

You can run the sub off of one voice coil at 6 ohms but you will be getting less power than the amps rated power at 4 ohms. I would wire both voice coils in prallel so the sub presents a 3 ohm load to the amp. Then get an amp that can drive down to a 2 ohm load safely.

Or just find a sub rated for 4 or 2 ohms.

If price isn't too much of an issue, I would highly recommend the new JL Audio W7. It comes in 10 inch and 12 inch and is absolutely amazing. A bit on the expensive side but well worth it. I'd save up for that. I'm a big fan of quality and am willing to wait to save up as opposed to getting an inferior product. Well, that's my opinion. If you have any direct questions, email me.
