Everyone says that 17s will slow you down because there is more rotation intertia, and that makes sense.

But if you have 17s that means you could slip at 4k and not get as much wheelspin and start going sooner, right?

Considering that the rims were lightweight too. Wouldnt the fact that it would stop the tires from spinning a lot make up for that?

If you run tires that are the same overall height as your stock tires, they wont slow you down. If you can get some 17" rims that are lighter than your stock rims, it will help reduce what is called unsprung weight. That helps your cars performance in several ways, like handling and acceleration. If you go with heavy tires/rims, they will slow you down big time dude. So the trick is to know how much the rims/tires your lookin at weigh before you buy them for their looks. L8r
