alright here goes. I am going to be trading my car in in 03 for a car thats under 30k. I want your input on the choices.

1) nissan 350z: I like this car all around, but i dont like the weight. I also hope they give it an agressoive enough suspension to handle well on the road. Nice power and torque, and i like the design.

2)mazda RX8: I like this car too, but i like the styling of the z better. I will defintiely testdrive both of these to see how they compare to eachother

3) Acura NSX 91-94: This is my dream car. I love the styling, handling is great, power is good, but it will be at least 10 years old if i get it in 03. I am thinkin that next year this type of NSX should be going in the mid 20's because the new model should be out in 03. The only thing holding me back from this is that the car will be at least 10 years old if i get it.

Thanx in advance for your input.

Out of this pack I would say the 350Z. It's too early to tell what's up with the RX8. At this juncture, I'd say the 350Z comes out on top of these three.

If you really have the cash the NSX might be a good choice. But there are a lot of things to consider. Repairs probably cost an assload of cash. It's old. Gas milage. Sweet ride though. It might be hard to find one in good condition.

I personally don't like the 350z or the RX8 that well. I'd go with the NSX. Who cares how old it is,

1. It' s a Honda
2. Even if it has 50k miles on it, it'll be just fine.

I would go for the Infiniti G35. 260hp RWD skyline sedan with almost 50/50 weight balance. Its basically a 350z with 4 doors and hauls ass (same suspension, engine, etc.)

At your local dealers now starting 26k!

The RX-8 I love. But I drive 60 miles away. Infiniti's engine is PROVEN very reliable and probably the best V6 out there. I'm not too sure about the reliability of rotary. Esp its a new design, and its very unique. You will have problems finding a qualified mechanic as well as aftermarket engine parts till years down the road.

You are going to be hard pressed to find one of those new Z's for under $30 grand...I don't care what Nissan says, most of these cars that hit dealer lots will be the higher end models like the "Enthusiast" or "Performance" models. Plus, you can bet your as$ dealers will charge a premium on these cars (meaning above sticker). Just look as the S2000. All the press raved about how nice a car it was for the money but in reality people ended up paying as high as $39,000 for one...the invoice is around $29,000 and sticker was around $31K or $32K. So I would cross that Z off the list. I'd go with that new Infiniti...it supposed to be the US Skyline (albeit it does fall far short of it).

Neither of those cars, get a Supra TT

What's wrong with the S2000, or a Miata or 2nd Gen or current MR2? It's in the same class as those others, except the top goes down :D I am sure the Z will be overhyped (well, it already is by some) and overrated once it finally gets on the street. I am as sick of hearing what that "can" do for under $30,000, and the damn thing isn't even out yet.
A 10 yr old NSX is better that anything else you listed, even though I never drove one. And since you are into modding, it obviously has that edge.

No Lancer Evo? Isn't it supposed to be released 2003... AWD, Turbo, 280hp :) What more could you want?

I really dont like the styling of those cars, and i want 2 doors. I would compensate for the rx8 though. I hope they dont mark up the nissan Z. I dont think it is going to be as limited as the s2k.

It won't be as limited as the S2000, but there will be ridiculous mark-up for the first few months. I hear ya on the 2 doors thing. But if I had to choose, the Z would come beehind the S2000, just because the S is a convertable. Besides, the Z doesn't offer any more convenience over the honda because of that rear bar. And aside from that, it is ugly, no argument about it. It is like the WRX, catchy, different, yet ugly.
If convenience is last on your list, the new MR2 with the supposed TRD supercharger warranteed is the way to go. 200+HP in an MR format... only sex rivals that pleasure. It can be made to look hella good too. Power and torque is great, but nothing beats light weight agility IMO.
If this is a joy ride, and you have no need for practicality, get a small, light weight roadster, a true sports car. Have you ever driven even a ****ty go-cart? Are they not funner than hell?

NSX_GTR_LM, you should definatley get an NSX. Who cares how old it is, it's your dream car!

Just to throw more options out there, though, you should consider a used 3000GT VR4. Twin turbo V6, AWD, electonic controled suspention, all wheel steering, speed sensative active arodynamics, active exhuast, and more...

The more is weight, 3500+ lbs. No thanks if I were choosing. It may be fast, but I like my boats to be able take me waterskiing.

djm221, you have a good point, it is a pretty heavy car. But it still pulls over 0.90g's on its skid pad, so even though it is heavy, it still out corners a Celica. Thanks to it's suspention and all wheel steering, it doesn't feel like a heavy car at all.

But still, all that technology can only carry the heavy car so far. I would think that a light car like the Celica would have a lot more potential than a VR4 when you start doing suspention mod's.

I really dont want a heavy car. The NSX doesn't feel like its 3k lbs, so thats why I would want it over a supra TT and a VR4. Plus the styling is so damn pretty, and it is obvioulsy a car that not everyone has. There is also more to cornering than how many G's a car holds. I dont care if a car pulls 1G, if it is heavy, it will not be able to change directions as quickly, and weight just hurts all the way around. Maybe I will be able to get over the whole 10 year old thing. Its just that a lot of things can happen to a car in 10 years ya know? Thanx for the input guys.

Dude , get the NSX. It is so damn pretty, got to be one of the best designed cars ever, period. Who the hell really beats on a NSX anyway?

Saw an NSX with a twin turbo pushing 400 hp somewhere recently. Everyone who sells their car on the internet wants a rediculous price for it, but just goes to show that it might be a fun car to own and make into an ongoing project.

Step 1: Find another job
Step 2: Buy house
Step 3: Build nice garage
Step 4: Buy NSX

Hmm I've got a ways to go... ;)
