Yesterday I brought my car in toyota to get the recall on 2002 vehicles done. I left it for a day, but they said nothing was wrong so it didnt need any replacement at the time. My cousin drove my car home since i had to work last night, but this morning i noticed the key returned was a key i had never seen before. Before the service i gave them my keyless entry remote, master key and spare key. I called them and the service guy said "i apologize but i have misplaced your keyes but we will make you another set." Now I told him there is someone with my keys who has access to my car if they wanted to take it. he said "we have keys to all cars, if we wanted to take your car we would take it" but the point was someone outside in the streets could have my keys and has access to my car at any time. He kept saying he apologizes and will make me a duplicate of my spare keyless remote alarm and keys. I am furious right now because i left my car there for a ****ing day to get a recall checked that needed no work whatsoever and isntead they lose my set of keys. ****in *******s, what should I do? I dont care if he makes another set of keys for me, someone has my keys!!! help!

and on top of that... they didnt even notify me or let me know they lost my keys.. wtf??

Get them to reprogram your alarm with a different code or someone will have access to your car.

even if they reprogrammed my alarm, they can still use the key to unlock it..

a. your code is impossible to reprogram, it changes each time you use your remote
b. in europe at least, you can not disable Toyota alarm with key, only with remote..

and why the heck did you give them all your keys? there is a reason for that spare key...

Sometimes I unlock my door with my key which disables the alarm

so the person who found them on the floor of the shop is going to go to your house/work and steal your car?

Dude, easy solution. Make a big fuss and have them change all your cylinders. They F'ed up so have them fix it. Fair enough?

someone stole my aunt's car like this, right out of her garage at home, so yes, it can be done.

Same thing happened to my friend. Except his car was in the driveway, and he had a garage door remote inside his car. They stole his car, took the remote, opened the garage, and took out the two other cars they had in there, all while my friend and his family were sleeping. They woke up and had no cars, lol.

you can turn the alarm off with the key, just get in the car, turn the key to the on position and push the valet button.

my toyota dealer did a similar thing.... they lost my alarm remote... they gave me back my keys without it. i was like uuhhh where is it and they looked for almost half an hour. i got pissed and just left cause i have another at home, and it was sitting on the floor by the pedals.

It's not that big of a deal. Toyota has been using identical keys and alarm codes on cars for years. My friend and I had different models of Toyotas, and our keys worked in each other's cars. They were identical. I had no doubt there were many more out there. Furthermore, most alarms can be overridden when you have the key anyway (for when the remote battery dies). So, all you need is a similar key to open the door and start the car. Nothing new.

Well at least they didn't take your car for a joy ride and crashed it.

I think it would depend on where you live. I live in the big city. Finding my car anywhere would be a difficult task for any of my friends much less a stranger. If you live in a smaller town or suburb where your car stands out, then you might want to request the change.
