No doubt it's nice, it'd be the only RX-8 I'd ever own...but that is seriously overpriced.

Its definitely nice but anyone who thinks there going to get that much for the car is smoking crack. Hell you could build it yourself for less.

ROFL...Is this the RX8 from that guy that was blabbing about putting a 20B in it, and how fast and great it was gonna be?
LOL...I guess he couldn't afford all of it after all. :chuckles:
I can't stand people that talk big and then put themselves into super huge debt over doing crazy conversions like this one. Still, I have to give credit to Acosta Racing for putting the work they did into it. Amazing work.
That RX8 is NOT going to go for 73k though..no way in hell.

when you say outpower, do you mean literally out-horsepower? because, I've got 70 grand if you can find me a new car with 800hp.

:wtf:
Get a Corvette Z06 and put a twin turbo setup on it and you can be over 800HP for $70G. Get a 350Z and do a motor swap to RB26 and modify that to over 800HP for under $70G. You can do this to alot of cars and have over 800HP for under $70G. You can do this with the Lexus LS as well as GS or even the IS. Give me your $70G I'll find shop that can do all this for you.

I thought you were referring to a NEW car. as in from the factory with 800hp for 70k.

no just buy new car and get it to 800HP, not that many company have 800HP stock... Atleast I can not think of one.

Funny you should ask, because I have the "Modified Mag" (Feb 2004 issue) that features this exact RX-8 and in it, the article says:
"Someone else at the [SEMA] show coveted the Acosta creation as well, so much so that they offered $127,000 to take it home. Acosta Motorsports declined...they couldn't part with this unit because it was putting Acosta Motorsports on the radar."
I figured they should've just taken the $127k offer, cuz they can always make another one. But now they've gotta settle for $70k.
BTW, in the article the RX-8 put out 850 whp @ 8600 rpm w/ 24 psi of boost and can spin up to 11,000 rpm. And one more difference: the article states that it has a T-80 dual ball bearing turbo, but the ebay listing has a T-72. Maybe that's accounting for the 50 whp "loss"?
Anyways, the article is a nice read, and the setup is really clean, so  for that.

One thing I know is alot of these show people boast alot, the more they make their car seem valuable the more sponsor they can pick up. I highly doubt the story they told the magazine is true, because like you said they can just make another one yet they did not. Lets see $57,000 profit not as important than couple magazine coverage? Hell with that money you can buy magazine cover page if you want!! That would give the company way more exposure.
All I can say is its a nice looking setup, but it is way overpriced.

yeah his buddy bid on it to start ball rolling and to try and show there is interest in this car, bet you after the listing is over it would be a "dead beat buyer" excuse and get relisted.

Yeah I still say a friend of his, until the guy who bid on the car paid for the car and got a positive feedback as well as the guy who sold the car I will stand my my guess.
Even if he did sell the car, you know what they say "one born every minute"
