1970's Porsche 914 with a Chevy V8 conversion run in? Almost everything would be modified in some way compared to stock.

Not that I have one, but it does sound like a lot of fun. :D

E Modified, so long as it meeds minimum weight.

I'd rather see a ZR1 all aluminum 32 valve overhead cam engine in it.

Of course, for autocross I doubt it would be appreciably faster than a well tuned 4 cylinder, and would likely lose to a well tuned flat 6.

But you could drop a 150 lb. lead ballast in a 914 to see how the V8 914 would handle in an autocross. :)

Note: I did not research the actual weight difference between the engines, and I don't really care. My point is that the Porsche was tuned pretty well for handling and that slapping a big engine in the car is not necessarily the best idea for autocrossing. However, do not let my conservativism stop you from dreaming up more crazy ideas. One of them might just work.

Another thought: How much faster would a 7G Celica be in a typical 60-second autocross if it was tuned to produce 240hp and say around 175ft-lbs of torque? Assume the suspension is not tuned at all from stock, and the tires are the same.

Good points guys.

I'm sure the 914 is/was well tuned from the factory; it is a Porsche after all. But (hypothetically speaking) I'd look for a car in terrible mechanical condition and rebuild it based around the new drivetrain. I think with its mid/rear design, the Porsche would generally respond better to added hp and weight than a 7th gen Celica. There has to have been racing 914s built to handle a lot more power than stock right?

BTW: sorry, I know this is not a Porsche forum. Probably should be in off topic. I just think this would be a fun project car. Like the German version of a Shelby Cobra!

The big problem I see is that it is a V-8 center og gravity will be high.

Isn't the 914 originally a flat 4? With the 914-6 being a flat 6?

Get a Boxter engine for te thing, or even better a 911 engine, that would be cool.

Hmm, that doesn't sound so good does it?
