you have to put the key in and turn it like in your celica. Instead of the ignition switch built into the key mechanism, its a seperate button. More of a novelty I guess.
Do you have to hold the clutch down?

Probably
Maybe Russ will see this, he has some kinda remote starter on his Celica, it would be interesting to see how that thing works. My guess is that it probably just disables the clutch thingy and you just gotta remember to stick the car into neutral before you get out of it.

Thats how it works. Note that older cars didn't require you to press the clutch before you started it.

yeah, i know. I got a 22 year old Corona thats a 5 speed. I could start the thing engaged in gear from a roll if I really wanted to. It's a good thing I am really good about putting the hand brake on whenever I leave the car, it's saved me a couple times when I started the car in the garage testing things out :)

I have an Ignited Push Button installed in the cig lighter hole. I installed it myself about 6 months ago - it was really easy, but I had a friend (Toyota delership mechanic) come over and wire it all up to the starter - so I have no idea how he did it or what wires are involved. Works great, though. You do have to insert the key and push in the clutch to get it started. Its really just a "show 'n tell" kinda mod.

you can start the celica without having to push in the clutch... reach up behind the clutch pedal and you'll feel a big button back there, hold it down and turn the key, it will crank... all you have to do it tape that sucker down..

Yeah thats basically it - but that one on ebay is a cheap-ass knock off version. I'd stick with Ignited for reliability purposes. There is a price difference - expect to pay about $50-60 for the illuminated one unless you can find a used one or a better deal on ebay.

The S2000 start button can only start the car when the key is in the ignition and turned to the ON position. There is also a chip in the key that must make contact with the ignition otherwise the car can't be started. So you can't hotwire the car without the key due to the ignition disable/killer. No car is impossible to steal, but I heard that it's almost impossible on cars with this technology. (like mercedes/bmw/etc.)

You sure about this? When I had extra keys made for the Celica I didn't even give them the VIN number of the car. I just handed em the key I had and said make two copies. It would seem that there would be more involved if there was a microchip inside the key.
