Alright, here's my problem, I'm currently driving a 1994 celica (ST Auto) which used to be my brothers but has been mine since he went to college. Well He's taking it back, and my dad and I have been browsing for cars, basically all 7th gen celicas. But he has given me one proposition, which is I have to get an AUTO. I know how to drive stick pretty good, and i've given him all the reasons why its a lot better, but he insists on auto and is not changing his decesion. So if I have to get an auto, would i be better off just looking for a GT and not a GTS in order to save some money which he may give to me to mod and stuff like that. We have seen some 00 GTS's with around 20k miles for in the $16,000-19,000 range and have been hesistant to jump on these great offers and feel stupid now. But we've also seen 00 GT's with the same mileage for around $13,000-$16,000. Anyone have any advice on what to do, and remember my dad is not even considering manual at all for me.
Oh yeah, one more thing, if he doesn't get me a car, then he's gonna pass down to me his 94 sc400 which is in perfect condition w/ only 75,000 miles. But modding that car is hard and expensive and i would feel like I was borrowing his car everytime i drive it. So basically I really just want my own celica! Well sorry for the long post, any advice is greatly appreciated

Poor baby, daddy wants to buy you a $20,000 car or give you his SC400. Damn, the trauma you face....
I don't even know why I am responding, but why is your dad so deadset against a manual tranny? If you have to go auto, stick with the SC400.

there's no need for the hostility man... there's no reason to act like that....
my dad bought* me my first celica... which was a suprise AND an auto, because at the time that is what i wanted.... well not long after i really wished i had got a 5spd or 6spd, so i tried everything until i found a way to get one... he needed a beater car so i "sold" him my gt auto and bought a used 5spd. it's 10x better, and even though i gave up the sunroof, i never miss it once i start shifting...
if you do get an auto, and plan to race, you might as well go for the gt because they run so close to the same #s stock(past the 1/4 the gt-s is faster)... however if you want leather, push button shifting(worthless imo), lift, and the almightly GT-S emblem on the back, go for it...
*he signed the papers and gave me the bill every month....

When I was your age I had to drive a 1981 rusted Chevy Chevette. You probably don't even know what that is. Then I upgraded to a 1984 Honda Accord LX. Then a 1990 Geo Storm (in 1993). Now currently, a 1997 Saturn SC-2.
He doesn't want you to have a manual because he doesn't fully trust you, because HE'S paying for the car and if you blow the tranny, it's HIS responsibility.
Take the SC400 if you can. It's a kick ass car.

I am not complaining..I am asking a question. Which was whether if I have to get auto would getting a GT be better because the GTS auto doesnt have much over it in power. This has nothing to do with me being spoiled or any other **** u guys r bringing up. He hasn't even bought me anything yet so don't bring up your drama stories like i just turned 16 and i'm drivin a 2002 porsche.

Clock your dad, and get tha gt-s stick!
If that doesn't work. Just save some major cash and get the GT.
No offense to gt-s auto owners, but I feel like toyota should not have made it. Maybe the same reason they did not make an automatic type r, s2000, civic si, ect...
