sever wear on e-brake, rear brakes, and rear tires...

plus really high possibility of losing control of the car and hitting something...

You can't drift in a FWD car. Pulling the e-brake and having the tail back out is ass dragging, not drifting.

no risks...if you hit something, just hit start and restart the race...

I'm sure if I say it can't be done someone will say it can. Yes it actually can be done in a FWD car just not as well as in a RWD car unless of course you use reverse

Personally I feel Drifting is a waste of perfectly good rubber and an accident just waiting to happen. Sure the "Pro's" that do all those tricks are great drivers but the "accident waiting to happen" comes when those that feel there are also great drivers attempt to "try this at home".

Keep in mind....
Drifting is to Racing as Ice Dancing is to Hockey.

technically you can... just not the popular 'initial D' 'drift showoff' kind... a drift is just a bias of slip angle to the rear... rear slip angle > front slip angle... technically everything on 4 wheels can "drift" ...

Wasn't there something posted recently in GD about a guy who won some big drifting contest in a FWD car? I remember reading it on NC.O, perhaps a search would help.

drift is basically a severe oversteer...

everyone has their own opinions and views on the topic, everyone does their own research and gets to their own results... this is just my opinion on the matter...

Hmm...I need to find a video....There's FWD drifting in D1...I think you guys would be surprised by the amount of technique involved by the way.

Also..I don't think everyone tries to be stupid and do it on some mountain Initial D style. Alot of them only do it on the track.

I know I would.

werd. if your into it, take it to the track... when you mess up your car gets dirty from track dirt and sand... maybe a few lil paint chips or worse case scenario a sideskirt bumps a curb or you hit a guide obstacle... but you'll live, and most likely so will the car...

EDIT: In order to save face...I have replaced the suggested vid with a tribute to all Honda cars....It's so beautiful..I even have the lyrics if anyone is interested.!!!!*

EDIT: DOH....ya..that's the link..lol...beat me to it!!! :wtc:

Ya, here it is....interesting. Not bad...but I'm not sure anymore about what's what anymore. All I've ever heard is that it's not drifting. Then again, I guess he doesn't care whether it's drift or not...he's having fun.

I think that's what it's probably about for him....

Oh..and by the way, if you can read kanji, or have a translator web page available (who doesn't? :D ) www.carvid.net is pretty damn nice for vids like this.

*I'm not serious. I think it's ridiculously idiotic. :puke:

Thats funny, as that is how most drift drivers suggest that you learn how to induce a drift...

Yes we autocrossers are a pretentious breed

So where do you fall into the Pyramid of Speed (http://www.nsxfiles.com/Pyramid_of_speed.htm)

Personally I am an autocrosser that has raced wheel to wheel in a real race car with other cars on the track that I was allowed to pass anywhere I could.

What's funny is that if you took the time to read the whole thread, you'd see that I admitted I was wrong a couple posts above your response.

Ya know...I wish I had the money to be at the top of that pyramid as much as I'd like to.

Unfortuanetly, I have to battle for the stuff I do already. I can't imagine what my wife would say if I spent 60 to 120 bucks a month going open wheel. That would be cool as hell, though.

I'm really hoping that when I get to Hawaii, I'll be able to hit up HRP ALOT..like alot, at least 3 to 4 times a month if not a helluva lot more. It's kinda nice having a track that's only a few miles away from you.

I just hope there's not a ton of FnF crap there...I know there was a FnF shop that got slapped down for taking the FnF name and launching their store for it (just heard that). From what I've seen, there's tons of peeps that like to go to the track, though. Nice..

Well believe it or not I too would love to be able to afford Wheel to Wheel racing. I could afford to do a couple rent a ride's each season but that would just make it worse. Currently I'm very happy doing 30ish autocross events and beating up on the wheel to wheel drivers at my local indoor kart track.

Remember. While the guy that wrote the "Pyramid of Speed" may be an internet legend he is not the authority on speed. Wrong or right it's just his opinion.

60-120 bucks a month?? for open wheel racing i dont know what the hell ur talking about depending on how many races you did in a month say about 4; the cost of getting into the races alone would FAR excede that amount plus there is tires, trailers if you are really serious, fuel, hotels to stay in, other stuff that breaks while you are racing...the cost of your car and its mods is just the entry fee, prices just go up from there.

I was going to ignore that but....

Event entry fees in my neck of the woods (Road America & Blackhawk farms) are around $225

If you have your own car then add Tires, Fuel, Meals (you and your crew), Lodging (also you and your crew) Plus any damage (may not even be your fault)

If you rent say a SpecRacer Ford it's $2,900 for two day race weekend in car that is prepared well enough to win a National race.

#1 thing to learn before you learn how to drift is know the balance of the car, from steering wheel feedback, to the way the car handles, to the sound the tires make.

Once you have that down then you can take the next step.

I figured someone would jump in and correct me....I took a guesstimate at the price, but I was basing the cost from the idea of simply going to meets like the BMW Owner Clubs & Porsche Events.

Although I said "Open-wheel" I think I was thinking more along amateur days, where you can just bring your own car and go all out.

That's what they have over here in the UK, but I guess America is kinda differenent in that aspect....I guess it's a little more open over here, in Europe. I do know that in Germany, you can run the Nurburgring for not that much at all...and you can pick how many times you get to go around the track, which is quite HUGE to begin with.

I still want to run my RX7 there, if I get a chance before I leave.

Still...you can now see how "pretentious" racers can get be by automatically assumuning everyone has the same taste in motorsports, or the same amount of WALLET some people have.
