hi, i want to sell my car as is with mods such as lambo doors and 18 in aftermarket rims on it. not to mention subs , tvs and etc all custom installed. the point is it legal to sell my car like this to another owner? or do i have to reconvert all back to stock before being allowed to sell my car to the new owner. do i have to pass a resale inspection first ? or do i just list it on ebay and sell it as is with no inspection at all. if i sell it on ebay then who will do the inspection for resale? is it me or the new owner? its just confusing because i was told both. ive seen many modded cars sold on ebay before. i just dont want to waste thousands of dollars for labor to take all of it apart then put back on again for the new owner after the resale inspection...thanks for any help.

Sell it as is. No legal requirement for any inspection on their part with you. However, if they take it to another state, then there probably woulud be an inspection by local police. If so and it doesn't pass, that's their problem since they took ownership of the car.

I've bought cars from other states and there is no local police inspection of any kind. You just go down to the DMV with the title and register it for your state just like you would with any other car that you buy. Don't worry comicbookguy, there is no such thing as a "resale inspection", and even if there were, why would lambo doors, wheels, and sterio make it not pass any way?

Not true.

Do this one example. Go live in Indiana (where I grew up until I got a job in Chicago). Buy a car in Kentucky. Go get it registered in Indiana. Wait for Co. Sheriff to come out and inspect the car before you can get your tags.

That's how it works. Depends on the state you live and where the car is coming from.

But that wasn't the point, Chameleon. The point was it's not his problem no matter what state the buyer is taking the car to.

Oh I see, I've never heard of any one having to pass an "after sale" inspection to register a car so I didn't realize that they existed. My GF recently bought a Forrester from Kentucky and registered it up here in Michigan with no inspections or anything, but it figures that each state would have there own regulations.

You do have a point DailyDog, if the state has inspections and the person has problems passing them, it wouldnt really be Comicbook guy's problem any more.

But if you do have inspections, you may want to make it under stood that the car is being sold "as is". Other wise you may have the buyer returning to your door step either demanding their money back or demanding you to make the car pass the inspections. Better check your local regulations.

Are you two laughing at this thread because I was originally correct about there being no "resale inspection" or are you laughing at me because there really are inspections in a bunch of states and I was completely ignorant about them? :hide:
