I sold my S2000 a few months ago and I am now looking for another car.
Question 1: How does the GT-S feel at high speeds? At 100+ the S2000 felt like I was only doing 60. It was nice and smooth and handled awesome. How do you guys think the GT-S compares?
Question 2: I always had a blast carving through turns in my S2000. How much fun is a GT-S to drive? Im looking for something that is fun to drive.
Thanks Guys
Jim
1) It's not bad but it depends what the roads are like. My smooth roads it's good but when they get bumpy it's not as nice.
2) I think it's fun to drive. The weather over here hasen't given me the chance to push it. :(

hands down the GT-S is one of the best handling front wheel drive cars out there and one of the most fun cars to drive. there are many write ups about it and if you get a chance check 'em out. here's the link: http://clubcelica.com/articles/

S2000 to a GT-S is going to be a disappointing change, if you ask me.
The GT-S seems incredibly solid up to about 100, and then starts feeling kinda loose at higher speeds. Handling is like riding a go-kart.

I am going to have to dissagree, my GT-S feels rock-solid at 120+, maybe there is something wrong with your suspension.

Having driven both, I am going to tell you that the Celica doesn't feel like you are going as fast at high speeds (mainly cause it isn't a convertable). Also, the S2k will outperform the Celica in handling hands down. The Celica is not as fun to drive as the S. RWD > FWD.
I am not saying that the Celica isn't fun to drive, cause that's not the case. What I am saying is that the shifter feel is much more crisp, and the suspension is far more refined in the S. They are both fun cars to drive, but they are completely different machines.

yeah why did you went from an s2k to a gts? either way both are fast n/a cars. um i don't know about the gts cuz i got a gt but you will notice the difference when you go uphill with the gts, you won't go as fast cuz it lacks torque.
he needs more int room? :)

To what are you refering? You do realize that the S2K is a gutless wonder under 6000 RPM, right?

my gts was smooth all the way till 145 (thats the fastest i have gone). and i believe you will be very happy with its performance...the handling is on par with the S and the breaking is slightly better than the S. Overall its a very nimble car that gets great gas mileage and decent power.

I sold the S2000 because I am buying a house and I could not afford both. I want a cheaper car that I can have some fun with. The S2000 spoiled my sences. It was so much fun to drive. I love that car and eventualy I will own another one.
Yes it isnt the best car for low end torque but it makes 6000 and above even more fun. Its definitly not the fastest car out there, but it wasnt built to drag race. As long as you know how to drive the car, you can keep the engine at the right RPMs when you need it. By far, the best handeling car I have ever been in!

the gt-s is pretty easy to drive at high speeds. i've touch'd 140-145 a few times, and it was smooth. but that with different springs and all, sure stock is about the same.

I have not driven an S2000, but I have heard that the appeal of the car is the "rawness" of it. The direct connection between driver and road, the way the car talks to you. In that sense, the Celica is the FWD equivalent. As others have pointed out, the Celica will not handle as well as the S, althought it will outbrake the S. It will also not accelerate as well. Having said all that, if the goal is to save som $$$ and still have a true driver's car, the Celica is an excellent choice.
As for stability at speed, no problem. I've had mine above 125 mph (200 kph) and it still felt good.
Another choice you might want to look into is the Mazdaspeed protege. It's a little less powerful, but handles a bit better and costs less. The downside is it still looks like a Protege (good looking for a 4 door, but still a 4 door) and the throttle response in a turbo car is never as good as a normally aspirated car.
edit: Just for reference, my car is a bone stock 01 GTS six speed.

my celica feels smooth as all hell at 140+ mph I normally drive about 120 on the autobahn where ever Im going wether its a 4 hr drive or 20 min and she rides smooth the whole way
1 - My Celica is deleriously, deceptively smooth at high speeds. It's in the city on ****ty roads that she gets rough.
2 - The Celica is one of the most fun cars to drive, hands down. It is totally tossable. Ad some suspension mods and its amazing. I like how lightweight it is, really lets you have some fun. It's as fun as a 350z, in my opinion, because the Z is so refined, the Celica is a bit more spastic (I enjoy that in a car) - you feel like you're really engaged and driving.
However, it doesn't have the amazing thrust that a really, truly fast car has. I have an addiction to the feel of torque when a turbo hits and the Celica doesn't feed that addiction without a turbo on it!

I drive my Celi 150-200 miles a day. I call on electrical distributors here in So Cal. N-E-ways once a week I go to Victorville on the 15 fwy, there is a 15 mile stretch of new asfault flatter in s***. I was around 135 and the Celi was smooth as silk. not like a Caddy and floating, it was still tight. I love this car.

yes, thats a fun strip to be on.
I've had my gt-s at high speeds many times and it still feels great even while changing lanes at 140 + lol

Well, if you get a new GTS its not gonna be that much cheaper than an s2000. Plus, insurance for the celica is pretty high. So s2000 -> Celica (new) doesn't seem like you'd save much. If thats the case, I would rather find some way to keep the s2k. Ofcourse, you could probably find a used GTS.. for like 15k or less, or maybe go with the lower model GT.

ok im gonna have to disagree...Im affraid to drive the celica at high speeds because of how unstable it feels at that speed. My previous car was a 99 base prelude and i think because of the weight it felt 10x more stable at high speed. The celica feels like its going to float away. The celica IMO is more suited for auto-x than high speed runs. The celica feels great taking low speed turn fast as hell such as exit ramps and such. I have a pretty solid suspension setup as well. TEIN SS coilovers, Hotchkis street sways, RMM front STB, and TRD rear 3pt brace.

High speeds don't bother my Celica :), but crosswinds make it feel unstable. :(

:stupid: I've never been more than 85 in A GTS and i wasn't really on it then but the S2K has to be miles above the gts.
