I'm looking at buying a new celi but would one be better off purchasing a good used 2000 celica gts over a brand new 2002? I've heard about some issues with the '02's, namely lower fuel cutoff (7700 rom I think?) and wider shift gates. Not to mention that ppl seem to be experiencing marginally slower 1/4 mile times also. However with '00 being the first model year of the 7th gen style I'm wondering about any initial problems with these as well, or if there were any tsb's issued. Recommendations or suggestions anybody???

Yes, there have been numerous TSB issued. Seach the site for them, there was a whole thread devoted to them. Nothing too serious; a rattle here, a creak there type problems.

Don't fool yourself, are you really going to race it? Do you have to have "the fastest Celica"? Can you live with just improving what you have to make it the best in your eyes? Are you worried about what some other fool did to the car before you?

Get an 01 instead of an 02...should be in better condition

id personally say to get an 01.. all the benefits of an 00 with the bugs of the first year changed..

well if u only have two choices... new or used, and they are about close to the same price, get the new. atleast if theres a problem, its covered under warranty. personally, i would only get a used car if i were almost 100% positive its in good condition, and i trust the seller. but yeah... the 01 model is what u want. :)

I would recommend gettin a '00 or '01 model that has been slightly used from a dealer that has a 'Toyota Certified Used Car' tag on it. I bought a '00 Certified model just recently w/ 7911 miles on it and drives like new. It also has a Manufacturers warranty that covers it for 6 yrs from the original purchase date or when it reads 100k miles on the odometer (-5yrs-60k miles for a new one right?) , so it has a long way. The price.. well i paid a lotless than a new '02 model. Money was pretty tight for me too.. so it all worked out.

I'm happy with my decision.. or maybe just the fact i got a celica :)

Yup, I got the only one that was listed on autotrader.com around my area. All the other GT-S's were all '00 models. Even now there aren't many '01's around my area. Glad I picked her up when I did :)
