View Full Version : 1/4 mile times for GT's with Nitrous?

Hey,
I have searched the 1/4 mile database on the site but cant seem to find any 1/4 mile times for Celica GT's with Nitrous.
What kind of 1/4 mile times are the GT's usually running with a 35 or 50 shot of nitrous and basic bolt-ons like intake, header, & exhaust. Preferably the NX wet kit, 50 shot.
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks!

You will gain around .8-1 second on the 1/4 with a 50 shot of nitrous. That's what you should expect, if you can handle the tire spin.

what gear and RPM are you supposed to hit it at?

You should search a little more about nitrous and the way it is applied.
First of all, I suggest to use a Mallory Switch that will automatically switch your Nitrous on at the desired RPMS, and turn it off before rev limiter.
Second of all, you have a WOT switch, which lets you spray only when your at full throttle. You can flip or press down the nitrous switch, but most people don't set it up just like they have in The Fast and the Furious. That movie is a bad repsentation of nitrous setups.
Usually you want the nitrous to turn on at around 3-3.5k rpms, and turn off 100 rpms before rev-limiter. You can use use it in all gears except 5th, and 5th and 6th if you have a GT-S, because they're mostly an overdrive gear.

would BFG drag radials help to reduce the tire spin and would that help me be any quicker?
also, is that .8 - 1 second gain obtained by spraying nitrous through all gears during the 1/4 mile?
so if i have a mallory window switch and WOT switch and i set the nitrous to engage at 3500 RPM and turn off at around 6500 RPM, is it ok to run the nitrous through all gears during the 1/4 mile?

You can hit mid-low 14's with a 50 if you're a decent driver with BFG DR's- they are much better than Nitto 555-R drag radials.
You don't honestly need the mallory switch, i had it and got rid of it. if you can't drive and worry about over-revving or mis-shifting then by all means buy it. and yes to answer your question about the mallaroy- that's what it will do.
start spraying right out of the hole, you should be more than fine. don't wait to spray in 2nd or 3rd gear- what the hell is the point of that anyways? do it from the line. i always kept my RPM's at 4500-5000 and came off the line with nitrous as soon as i went WOT. you'll be fine. with the BFG's you can hit 2.0 60 foot times, at least i did but I never even bothered to heat them up, just kept the PSI at 17. i'm sure you could do better if you heated them up but I never did.
if you have any more questions let me know.

what psi is it at usually if you fill up and not heat it?

so lets say i have the mallory window switch to engage at 3500 rpm and turn off at 6000 rpm and i run 50 shot nitrous through each gear during the 1/4 mile, can i hit 14's on BFG drag radials ( i also have header, CAI, and exhaust)? i know u got ur 14 time by spraying urself right? would using the mallory be as effective as spraying urself?
also, what other mods do you have besides the 50 shot when u got ur 14 secs. time?
also, what rpm do you launch at?

the only mods i had when i doing low 14 second passes were: injen intake, hks exhaust, TRD short shifter, ACT street clutch, stock suspension (didn't have the koni/gc setup that i have now and i'm pretty sure i didn't have the header) and 15" BFG drag radials on stock 15" rims- i used these as everyday street tires for a good couple of months (wouldn't do that again- in the rain i felt like i was going to die :chuckles:
i wouldn't cut off the nitrous at 6k. cut it at 6800, and activate it at 3-3500rpms.
yes i got those times without the mallory switch, but there is nothing wrong with having it- i just didn't feel the need even though i paid for it- i later sold it.
i came off the line at 4500-5k and the tires would hook, the RPMs would never drop and i just took off, not much spinning at all. you have to work the clutch right, it's not hard at all *to me anyway* anyways i trapped 99mph more than a couple of times- best 60 foot times i got were 2.01-2 which isn't all that great for drag radials but i never heated them up.
it should be noted that the clutch helped a lot- with the stock one it started to slip pretty bad up top- i got a total of 10-12 runs before i finally had to get a new one. i have the ACT street clutch and it's worked out very well for me. i like it.
if you can drive then don't worry- you will hit mid-low 14's. get the clutch and drag radials and you'll be good to go :)
oh my bottle pressure was around 1050-1100 psi- it definitely makes a difference.

93 octance. I thought about using Cam2 but from my understanding it eats up your O2 sensor??? can anyone confirm/deny this???

I usually have around 600-650 in the winter (California Winter that is).

good luck with your nitrous- you'll love it! but it can get expensive :)

There a 2002 5 speed Gt where im from that ran a 13.9, on falken street tires, stock clutch, and a 75 shot of NOS. He has injen cold air intake and custom exhaust.

13.9? do you know what he's trapping? i don't know how he is keeping traction on street tires- if he swapped some DR's on there....WOAH
that's really good though!

13.9 on a gt is a very very impressive time.

13.9 is fast for a gt!
ToyoGT: What rpm do you shift at for each gear when doing? im assumming redline (is it 6800 rpm?)
ToyoGT
01-23-2004, 06:10 AM
yes, shift at 6800- don't tach it out to 7000rpms which is what i do when not racing on spray.
And please don't even think about racing on those 18-19" rims of yours :)

haha dont worry...i wont race on my 19's
ill be racing with my stock 15's on BFG gforce drag radials

this is a late post but i would suggest keeping your front rims on. the heaviness of them would even add to your traction. but i guess since you want drags, u can't really put drags on ur large rims cuz then ud have to take them off after your drag sessions. but ya.. ok.

question-how do you launce on WOT with a manual? i usually hold the rpm on 3k then slip the clutch. for the people who are spraying and have WOT, do you do the same?

hold your revs and as soon as you get the light, dump the clutch and floor the gas pedal = wot
if your clutch sucks this will produce stinky smoke and major slip. so dont do it.

Where is this guy from? You know how much HP he was pulling to the ground with the 75 shot? I am curious caus' he prolly has a little more HP than me @ 5psi. I ran a 14.0 and he ran a 13.9 and I assuming he drives pretty well..
