View Full Version : Need Help Quick! For those who have INSTALLED the TRD Mechanical Bumper
Was it a direct replacement fit for the stock bumper? The body shop that is installing mine (since I was in the accident) is trying to tell me it doesn't fit. They are saying it is not a direct replacement and it will cost more money to put it on. They mentioned cutting something. I know, I know, it's BS. But I need to hear it from other people who have actually installed this thing. The stock bumper shoud just pop off with the 6-8 screws under the hood, 2 in the fenders (1 in each), and the 12 underneath the bumper. The new bumper should just slip right on and use the same screws and such if I am not mistaken??? Please do not move this post, I need to meet with this body shop soon to tell them that they are idiots...I even called TRD and they said the body shop were idiots.

All the stock bolts will be reused. The only modification that is needed is the white crash foam that is under the stock bumper needs to be trimmed. However, Toyota made it real easy by putting little lines in the white foam that show exactly where you need to trim in order to put the Mechanical bumper on. I trimmed mine with a good knife in about five minutes. There is one large section for the big opening and two little notches that need to be cut in the foam.
Really!? That's it! I had a feeling. But you know what, I could have sworn that the bumper came with a new foam thingy...in fact I'm 99.9% sure it did. So, you didn't need to cut the black plastic at all?? Meaning, when I did my front lip spoiler, I needed to just add these new like gromet things...that was it...it used the stock wholes and bolts.
And did someone just try to send me a private message???
Anyone elese? I just want to get as many opinions and points of view as possible.

All you need to do is like jesse said pop old off and put new on :-)
That's what I thought Pluto...I really can't understand what problems they are running into.
I don't suppose anyone has pics of the install...that would be priceless.

no when i saw my front bumper there was nothing with it that i can member it has been about a year hmm
The only thing I can possibly imagine they have come across is maybe since the action package is out, the bumper fits differently now?? I doubt it but I'll know soon enough (tomorrow morning).

Hi,
Here are Pics of the install of TRD Front:

Thanks man...I'm still waiting for my fogs to come in...thus, I have to take the bumper off and redo it...I've taken the stock one off many times but this will be an adventure.
It appears as though when TRD came out with the Action Package and made these parts "Collision Replacement Only" they cut a lot of corners...for instance, the black grills were not even installed on the bumper. And there WAS about 3 bags of hardware with different brackets.

The only extra piece of hardware on mine is a little black plate that partially covers the upper opening. You need to remove two nuts on the top of the radiator support, put these little spacer in there, put the black plate on, and then two new nuts...that was it.
When you get your TRD fogs in, shoot me an email and I can suggest a real easy way to install them if you plan on removing the factory fog lights.
