I juss raced a 2001 Z3 3.0 from a stop light on the service roads n i was leading all the way through until i hit 100 i backed off. we pulled over n he was ashamed saying he thought he would win. i thought he'd win too. them things are supposed to run flat 14s. well he looked my age (17) n he said he doesnt know how to double clutch. i was acting like i knew what he was talking about saying "o really thats koo". well i dont know what double clutching is either. i've heard it before. what exactly is it? how do you do it? good? bad? faster? help me out guys
It is described at the bottom of this article:

Double clutching is overrated and stupid. Its easy to do, but I dont think really applicable to our cars. Its more for like strictly race cars. As long as you rev your rpms high before you shift, you will be ok

Double-clutching......sound familiar? Something from Fast & Furious?

i too have wondered about "double clutching"... from what i read, tell me if i'm right. (i don't have a stick btw)
you wind out let's say first... push in clutch, move stick to "N", release clutch, rev the motor, push clutch back in and move to second, release clutch, accelerate into 2nd...
why waste that time in between gears?

its only for downshifting. Its not really applicable to our cars. Its more professional racing cars, Le Mans, etc... Its so the speeds match better so it goes into gear smoothly

ALSO ,, AND THIS IS HUGE.
Double clutching can help your synchro's on a downshift. IF DONE CORRECTLY
however if you do it WRONG. YOU WILL DO MORE DAMAGE THAN GOOD!

to hell with this Fast & the Furious crap.
for the sake of your car's health/longevity
forget about it.

I use double clutching for all my downshifts
it's very helping gettign into 1st gear at 10mph
if anyone says they need to do it for upshifting then they watched fast and the furious too many times

Double clutching to shift up is stupid unless your synchros are shot, in which case it's a necessity.. :)
I always double-clutch when I downshift.. no matter how or where I'm driving. Once you learn how to do it right you can feel the difference in shifts.. they are much smoother IMO... plus it saves wear on your synchros so why not do it?
Hell, try dumping it into 3rd gear from 5th gear when you're going like 50 MPH without double clutching and then try the same thing when you do a good double-clutch and you'll know what I'm talking about.. :)
Besides, we bought manual transmissions cuz we like to shift and be in complete control of our cars, right? Double clutching gives you more control so just suck it up and learn how to do it. It's really not that hard.

Visualize it first.. then try it out a couple of times. After awhile it'll become 2nd nature. It's definately worth learning trust us.

u don't EVER need to double clutch to up shift!!!!
due to physics.... it already does it.. cuz the engine rpm drops naturally when up shifting.... everything works in perfect harmony
[just lightly push the shifter to the next gear.. it should feel like it pops in by itself.. then u've done it..] but its not called double clutching.. but it does the same thing as double clutching..
downshifting requires a higher rpm.. there for u need to spin the transmission as well... so thats y u let go of ur clutch so it will spin the tranny as well.... go read up on double clutching.
damn FAST AND FURiOus!!!! i was like wut the F was he talking about...!!!??!!??!?!?!?!? what a load of S@!T!!

**** fast and the furious.
double clutching is usually applicable to those who have bad synchros as aforementioned.
when you drag .. you just tear through your tranny .... which causes you to HAVE to double clutch later on when your synchros start to grind and your bearings start to wear down. it helps, trust me. i have a 15yr old transmission in my mki mr2...
other than that. learn how to heel and toe.....
