View Full Version : Very strange idle
Well, keep in mind my car was completely warmed up and had been driven warm for a godd 10 minutes when reading this.
Anyway, on my way to lovely work this morning I was sitting at a few stop lights (I wish you all could hear the sarcasm in my voice when I say a "few"). My tach was bopping up and down...it felt as if the car was almost ready to stall. It would dip down to like 300RPMS and up to only 1,000 RPMS. I know somepeople had problems of this nature when the car was cold, but mine was far from that. I believe that problem was caused by a faulty throttle body, I don't know what this is. Any ideas?
And this is not an attack on Toyota quality post...if you feel the need to do so, do it somewhere else please. Thank you!:)

OK Drew... you have an irregular idle.. this can be caused by a number of things:
I'm gonna put up the fix in the top thread in Mods... go there for your solution.. its a sticky
Thanks for the attention! I appreciate it. However, none of those seem to be my problem. hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.....

I don't see in your sig if you have the butterfly valve removed. If you do that could be a source of the problem. Mine is out but my idle only varies about 200rpm and never enough to nearly make the engine cut off.

that happeend to me this morning in fact... my car was also warmed up... and then when i was in traffic the tach kept falling and the car felt like it wanted to stall.. but i tapped the gas for like 20 seconds in neutral bringing it up to 1500 and it went away.. and this is not the first time either..
i'll be sure to bring it up with my toyota tech next time i head in.. by the wya.. i have no mods except for TRD exhaust.. so this is not a problem for just GT-S and peopel with intake...
I don't think it's compression...it's strange. I don't have any engine mods and never have. The only performance mod I have is the TRD exhaust. And my gas light is on for some reason...and I know I have a full tank of gas.
I'm also glad to hear it's more than just me.

I get this also with my auto GT and I am completely stock. Also happens when the car is warmed up and at a stop light. I took it in to the dealer once and all they said was they couldn't "re-create" the problem so they didn't do anything about it. That's probably what your dealer will say also if you can't show them what you are talking about. This has been going on with me for months now, it just happens every now and then. I'm not wrried about it, it seems to be somewhat of a common problem though, since I remember many people talking about it in the past.

this wouldn't be something so dramatic that a new engine or something like that would be needed is it??
