I just had a new transmission put in my 2000 Celica GT-S. They said the tranny was an upgraded one. Now my shift gate going from 2nd into 3rd is much further to the right than what it use to be, wtf did they do? I cant speed shift anymore cause I have to go so far to the right, should I take it back in tomorrow and bitch at them? OR WILL THEY GIVE ME SOME LAME EXCUSE?

thats the updated tranny for 2002. I don't think they will change it back because toyota id that to prevent misshifting.

Im not sure if the B&M shortshifter fits on the 2002 tranny! Does anyone know if the B&M fits on the new 2002 tranny shift gate? Im in a rage right now, this is the end of the celica racing days! Toyota covered the tranny under warranty! the 3rd gear synchro went out! I have a 2000 GT-S, did anyone else ever have a 2002 tranny put into their 2000 celly? People are also saying my rev limiter will now be 7800 with this new tranny, is this true?

i think your rev limiter still the same at 8300 not 7800. only the 2002 celica has the ECU change. I doubt they change your 00 ECU to 02 ECU.

your rev limiter will not change. just the gates. that is the same tranny used late in 2001. so you have nothing to worry about with the revlimiter

yeah, before i had my GT-S lemon lawed for the synchro's, the SECOND tranny it had shifted like urs....I also found it a big pain in the ass bcuz when i shifted fast, i would hit a dead spot where my third gear used to be with the old tranny...At the time, i didnt care anymore bcuz my car was bought back a month after the tranny got replaced. Oh yeah, i got it lemon lawed bcuz it went through 2 trannys in 2 years.....good luck!

Yeah count your blessings that you have the same computer anyways. All that needs to happen is you need to get used to the new tranny and you'll be alright!

Well, I just recently got this done because my old tranny was stuck in both reverse and first gear.... i don't know how that happened and they don't know how that happened =\
And yeah, it was covered under warranty.
To me, I thought of the exact same thing that I can't shift fast anymore to 3rd because of the wide 3rd gear! I have the car back a day now and I still can't find 3rd gear without slowly putting it into gear!!! I was pretty mad about that! but then the shifter is much smoother, it is a lot easier to get into reverse and first now.... I guess I just have to get use to the new third gear so I can shift faster and faster with much practice.
I tried today to stayed in the cam with the new transmission, twice and twice i failed, which never happened with the old tranny.
In the old tranny, i can stayed in big cam shifting at 7900rpm. With this one i shifted at 8100rpm, and it landed at 6000 every time instead of 6100 or 6200 with the old tranny.... so yeah, at least we can shift pass 8200 still, better than the 2002 models, just practice more i guess

I was going to ask this same question. I had my tranny replaced last Nov. and thought the problem with third was the new tranny needed broken in. Now I know it's the new shift gate. I just ordered the TWM short shifter. Think it will work?

third Gear use to be my fastest shift til I got the new tranny. Though now I can shift fast into 3rd no problem. I think you just need to get use to it. I sure as hell wasnt pissed about getting a new transmission either. I dont see why you would go back and bitch them out. Seems a little rediculous. Just give it time. Its all gravey.
Oh btw. I screeched my tires shifting third last week racing a Porsche. First time that has ever happened :)

I have the 2000 celica with the 2002 shift gates and for me, I think it's much better than my 00 shift gates. I can screech my tires from the 1 to 2 and 3 (not all the time though). But, I don't pay attention to the staying on lift. I don't even know, oh dang. I have to start paying attention to it more. Well, the new shift gate works better for me. You just need to get used to it! Give it some time.

oh yeah, has anyone gotten their flywheel resurfaced? The toyota dealership had my flywheel resurfaced and gave me a new oem clutch.
